Default trying to pass emissions

Ok, so I have a 97 civic hatch w/poormans type r. I'm running hondata s300 normally.I arranged to borrow a gsr ecu from a shop to do emissions. So I plug the ecu in and about 5 sec after start up it throws a vtec malfunction code, and when i drive it and the rpms hit 5000 or so it bounces off like its hitting the limiter. I plug my hondata p28 in and cel goes away vtec hits fine and when it should. ??? Any ideas lemme know. thx
