Default Timing numbers for E85?

I know it sounds like a newbie question, but i was just curious what others are running for timing around the 20lb range on E85?

Im not looking for anyone to give up their secrets. But my last car i tuned on ethanol made over 700 on 24lbs. It was a 10 to 1, 83mm, pro 1's, Garrett 4294 with a 1.01 a/r, and was around 20* at 21lbs. I was tuning on the dyno and kept adding a degree every pull and it never fell off, so i stopped adding timing. It just seemed a bit excessive. I know generally your supposed to add timing until it stops making power and then back it down. Would just like a little feedback from people who have tuned on pump E85. Thanks for you time.

Asking for timing is always a loaded question. Most people are not aware that table timing is not the final timing output and that also depends on the EMS you’re using. Furthermore Im sure you are aware there are a hundred other factors affecting timing.

Personally I’m around 15-16* of table timing in the 20psi column. Does that help? Probably not. I’m moving this to the EMS forum as its more of a tuning question.

Thanks for the reply. Im certainly aware there are several factors that determine timing. I just always thought on my old setup, timing seemed a bit excessive. But i never had issues with it.

I posted it in the FI forum cause its definitely going to get more traffic in there lol.

this is just my opinion but ethanol has great knock resistance, setup correctly you can get kind of aggresive on s300 with a sleeved motor... reading plugs is the only way to know for sure... shoot me your email address ill send you one of our 800+hp maps so you can compare, we have never had a timing related issue with this map.

Regarding what I said originally, take a look at Table timing vs Actual timing in the log. If you have Ignition Adjustments disabled under paremters then they should match which means you are not comparing apples to apples with the rest of the Honda community. And this could be why you are finding you have to add so much timing.

If Actual timing is about 5-10* above Table timing and your mind is blown take a look at RPM Based Ignition Adjustment under Ignition Dwell. All Honda based ECU ramp up timing based on RPM.

There is no right anser other than, give the motor what it wants, no more, no less. If you add timing and it makes more power, your not there yet. Its very hard to hurt a motor on E85. And 20deg at 20psi does not sound unreasonable by any means. I had a car running at the track today, that had 17deg @40PSI + 100shot of nitrous on pump E85. Just give it what it wants, keep an eye on the plugs and you will be fine.

yeah what he said...and go by 1-2 degree increments, dont get greedy...if you have an EGT it'll be very useful cause you will know when you went over on timing as temps rise from the norm.
