Default Question Regarding Crome

Anyways, I am going to order a wideband within this next month, and I would also like to try a different tune. I am currently using a street tuned chip my buddy and I made (he's street tuned numerous cars). The car runs great, but I feel it has more potential, and could be leaned out more. I had the car dyno'd, and even Dennis at Hybrid said the car has potential to put out a bit more power with a different tune. He suggested a "fattened" up B16A ecu, because I am running a GSR block with P30 pistons, a stock B16 head, RMF header, and Professional Products Intake Manifold. However, Chris at Xenecron suggested a stock P72 basemap. My question is which should I start with, and why. Also, how do I "fatten up" a map. What numbers am I looking for in the tables... Any help would be appreciated.

I recommend to go dyno tune with an appropriate tuner than will be able to properly setup your air/fuel and ignition maps properly rather than just guessing with differnt maps.

Thanks for the reply. I plan to do that at the end of summer, but the thing is, I've already been driving this motor with my street tuned chip for a few thousand miles. It's my DD, so I NEED an ECU. Either ECU couldn't be any worse for my motor as they are similar and both recommended by many and especially these two people. So I'd like to toy around with both until the end of summer when I get my cams and valve train.

Why don't you just have your buddy street tune your car (assuming he has a wideband)?

Concerning a your original question, without a wideband, don't even waste your time trying to make your own tune.

Your next best solution is to run a basemap specifically from a vehicle like yours: http://www.phearable.net/shoppingcar...emap-p-60.html

That's what I'm doing... I'd like to know which would be better to start with, a P72 map on my P28, or a "fattened" P30 map on my P28. To START with... I've been using a P73 map, but I feel is too rich, which is why I'd like to start back at point one.

if you arent using the IAB butterflies, dont use the p72 map IMO.

my b18c was tuned from a p30 base map.

Actually, the P72 maps with smoothing applied in the RPM range where IAB would kick in is still ideal. The P30 map sucks for the GSR engine.

If you want to retune the entire map, then sure you can start with whatever maps you want.

This is where I'm stuck lol. It doesn't matter if I put the P72 map on the P28, the IAB won't work without modification, which is fine because I don't have them. But, Dennis and a few others said that they prefer P30 maps to start with, then play from there. I believe this would be better for me, because I am basically a B16A with a GSR crank, so for some reason, I see a P30 map being a better choice. Then again, Chris from Xenecron knows his **** lol. In for more info...

I just made a basemap for my buddies GSR with a p30 base since he no longer has the IAB's. For some reason it would idle like ****. I looked over the the fuel and ignition maps. Everything looked smooth but wasn't running properly. I was debating on using the p72 base just for ***** and giggle but not possible to smooth anything out since he has no Wideband.

I would say use a p30 base but use copy the gsr maps onto the p30. Might have him try that out.

id say its something else. my gsr motor (ITR manifold, no IABs) its tuned from a P30 basemap and it idles fine.

Alright so more leaning towards the P30... Any reasons why you guys chose P30? Would It be beneficial to use the fuel multiplier tool to change fuel from 1.6l to 1.8l to start with?

That's what I was saying. His car idles fine with my ITR bin I tuned my car on while I was still running on Crome. So it kinda gave me the question mark.

It's just a p30 base. You copy and paste the p72 maps onto it making it a p72 map that eliminates the secondary IAB's supported by the stock gsr IM.

Here is what it looks like. p72 maps on a p30 base.

^I already did that, I read Chris' post on how to do that, the part where I questioned it was the cam ignition. Should I use P72 High and Low Cam Fuel, and keep the P30 High and Low Ignition? After all I am still using a stock P30 head...
