Default PR4 ECU chipping question

To make a long story short I got a PR4 ecu(Code: 37820 PR4 A11) and the stuff I need to chip it. When I removed the cover there was already an EPROM chip in the 27256 space (from factory), the cap and resistors were there (from factory) and so was the 74HC373 dip (again, factory). I thought all OBDI ecu's could be chipped? Can I just remove the original chip in the 27256 slot and go on with my installation for an aftermarket EPROM without any problems? I would assume so but just wanted to see if there's anyone with any experience that could say yes or no for sure. Thanks in advance

Some were chipped from the factory with an updated firmware. Just remove the 38256 and place a socket or whatnot there. It will work fine.

Awesome that's what I needed to know, I thought it would work since it's the same idea and hardware but had never seen this before. Thanks
