Default P1300 Random Misfire Code - No CEL?

Just got a new DashDyno - a really cool data logging toy - and it wouldn't connect to my Miata so I connected it to my '03 Ody to see if it was the car or the scanner. No problems connecting, but it pulled a P1300 Random Misfire stored code. That's the only code, no CEL, and the car runs fine. The only reason I connected the DashDyno was to see if it worked. I did check the check engine light and it lights up when I turn on the ignition.

I'm wondering what to do? Wait for the CEL or is this worth chasing down now? If I were to take a wild guess, since there's no additional codes pointing to specific cylinders or other problems, the first place I'd look would be EGR, but that's just a guess.

Anybody seen something like this?

P1300 is a random misfire code, it is usually a heads up that something may need some attention. If your CEL ever flashed while you were under hard acceleration and high rpm this code could be stored. Without a solid CEL coming on.

It could be due to old plugs, coils or some other part of the ignition starting to get worn out. When was the last time you did an ignition tune up? Probably should check your plugs and coils for wear.

Never. (It's a Honda - shouldn't ever need fixing, right?) The van only has 85K miles, but it's nine years old now so it is probably time to replace the timing belt, plugs, etc. And the paint that's flaking off the sliding door. (again)

thanks,
Jim

p1300 imo is one of the hardest codes to fix. It could be ignition, fuel or a mechanical problem. Iirc every 8 years the t belt, plugs, valve lash, coolant, brake flush is all due. Try catching up on some of your maintenance and see what happens. At the moment it sounds like a temp aka soft code. So its probably only misfiring every blue moon. If the misfire count jumps up a solid cel will be on.
