newbie tune question
ok so i have a poor mans type r w/ctr pistons, itr cams, itr inj, and a jdm itr ecu. i have a apexi neo from old motor, and i want to mess wth it. before everyone says it, i know its crap and get a real setup. I am just cant save fast enough for my needs to tinker. so the question is, why is my afr going lean every time i clutch for about 2-3 sec then rises back to 14:1 and if i dont shift fast enough it does it between gears too. im trying to leave the tune close to factory for gas milage. any help would be great, again im just playin to learn a bit till i can get hondata.
First,, as you mentioned, stop and sit and save your money.
If you just cant and would like to risk your new setup because "you just have to," then dont worry about this condition as there is no load on the engine and its not really a huge concern with it going lean between shifts. Are you using a wideband to measure this, or another hack job sweepy gauge light show "Wideband" brought to you by AutoMeter? If using a true wideband meter/sensor, post how lean it goes. Most times it will go rich, but I have done it where it will go lean if I am still applying throttle and shifting. Again there is no load so its not a huge concern unless you are talking 16-19:1 AFR and then it would be popping pretty bad.
Seriously though, dont mess with it yet. Drive it stock, love it and save your gas money that you are currently wasting for the EMS of your choice. And by the way, Hondata isnt the only solution....

yes it is a aem wideband a/f ratio gauge. the lean out will climb up to 16 17 then --- . after a sec or 2 it will bounce back up to 14.7 and slightly hover around that.(this is all with the apexi neo turned off and just using vtec control) when i hit the gas it richens up all the way to 11 at times at wot,so i know it needs a little fuel taken out.(or so i think) but it never really spikes out or act weird under loaded conditions. im not really using the neo other than trying to get the feel for tuning, and i chosse the ecu i got cuz it is the closest to my setup. what other systems do you recomend? i will be rebuilding the car with a turbo and new motor or rebuild mine with lower comp. so thats kinda why i wanted hondata for its ease of use.... let me know what u think or if u need morew info. thx
