I have a stock B18B with Crower 403 (stage 2) cams. DCR is close to stock (about 8.5:1) at 0,0 cam timing. I'm street tuning with Crome and an Android accelerometer. I'm almost satisfied with my tune and once I'm done, then I'll start testing more overlap.

My question is how lean can I safely tune this for? I'm talking about 5000-8000 RPMs in the last two columns. I don't think I'm at a whole lot of risk for detonation, but I don't want to overheat the cylinders either. I realize that the HP gain is minimal, but I wanted to play around with it just to see what I can get. And yes, I beat the ever living crap out of my engine.

 

Assuming your using 90-93 octane fuel I would suggest 12.8:1-13.0:1
Generally you won't pickup any power by going to 13.5:1 in that range.

If you want to see the most benefit you need to find a tuner to help you read your plugs to work on ignition timing, or go spend some time on a dyno to dial in it perfectly, after you get your air fuels where you want. ~14.7 idle to ~12.8 full throttle.


Don't be cheap on gas just to save a few pennies. A little gas is cheaper than leaning it out too much.
