Default Generic tuning ?'s from a first timer

Hello,

I just recently finished getting my turbo kit installed and am finally to the tuning part of it. I have played around with the S300 for a couple of days and have a few questions.

1. Cold start fuel correction: I know that cars take more fuel on cold start up. But, is the extra fuel to keep an A/F ratio of 14.7 or is it supposed to run rich until it warms up? My car seems to run right at 11.5-11.7 and works its way up to 15.0 as it warms up.

2. Tuning the ignition map: Is it best to keep 0* of knock retard? The car seems to run fine and I don't hear any pinging (although with the open dump I am not sure that I could hear it if it happened). Looking at the datalogs it seems to pull about 4 degrees of timing while in boost. I guess I could take away a degree at a time in those parts of the map until it has no more knock sensor interference? I do have the boost table set to retard 1* per pound of boost.

That's all I can think of now, but will post more questions as the come up.

TIA,

David

Depending on your fuel injectors there is a gsr with 550cc injectors and a sc61 turbo tune in the s300 calibrations. Another thing is I heard the factory knock sensors on the b series motor will give false knock and cause the timing to start retarding. There is a good DIY device that you can make and it'll let you hear if your motor has knock or not.

Instead of just listening, which is impossible with an open dump tube. Try reading your plugs. That will help you determine if you are detonating or not.

That is the map I started with. I have got the a/f ratios pretty close. Right now at full loadit holds pretty steady at 11.9 with a bump to 12.3 qt the Vtec crossover. I will work on leaning it out to 12.3 and getting rid of that bump this weekend.

As for the knock tool, do you have a link to the DIY? Thanks for your input!

I kinda figured that would be the case. I plan on running the wastegate back into the exhaust because with a 3lb spring it is open almost anytime I am on the gas. I have a couple extra sets of plugs and was planning on pulling them out Saturday to take a look. I have never read plugs so I will have to find a good article on it. Is there much tuning required in individual cells of the map or is it ok to just highlight the entire thing and use the "-" button to pull timing everywhere? Thanks again!
