Default FuelTech plug and play conversion for street car?

Hello, not sure if anyone in here is familiar with FuelTech, but I'm curious if anyone is able to help me with my situation.

I'm getting ready for my new swap and I've been on the fence on what engine management I've wanted to go with. Considering ecu and kpro is costing about as much as a standalone, and my gauge cluster is no longer accurate and sporadic, I've decided to go with FuelTech as it's an ecu/display unit.

I plan on using this in my street car, so I do have a couple of questions for those running FuelTech in your 88-00 Chassis's.

I'm trying to figure out how the wiring is going to work to retain everything I need to make it a street car. I've been looking at CJS-Wiring harness for the full conversion, but obviously, I don't see anything in relation to a fan switch. I'm sure since I'm using a FuelTech, I can just have it turn the fan on once the engine temp hits a certain temp, but I'm still learning about stand alones and what can be done.

Diagnosis is also something I'm unsure of, as this doesn't have your standard OBD error codes. The display will show me about everything I need I'm sure, but I wanted to know if it will tell me when a particular sensor is behaving weird?

Lastly, I know when you K swap, you would normally buy a conversion harness, to adapt it to your chassis. I know the fan switch is part of one of the plugs, but what else is normally plugged in that will lose functionality when going with a FuelTech.

Certain features, I know I will have to add back, such as turn signals, hazards, brake light, headlights, highbeams, etc, which I've already thought about and will more than likely piggyback off of the cluster connectors. Is this viable?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Isn't standalone more for the engine? I'm pretty sure you still maintain your factory chassis harness unless you go new or PDM.

That's what I was needing to know, as I wasn't sure what functionality would be lost when going with a standalone.

Thanks

Once you plug your Fueltech into a laptop and setup your base tune for the first time, you'll select which functions you want. You can run the harness that came with your Fueltech to your OEM harness, or use their plug and play harness and trash your OEM one. I'm installing a Fueltech on my 93 hatch at the moment, and there are many ways to do this. I'm going for a fresh "new wire" look, therefor here are the steps I'm taking...
  • Remove OEM harness from car
  • Remove OEM ECU from car
  • Removed most of the original wire loop (plastic crap) from harness
  • Cleaned all wires and connectors thoroughly
  • Test fit back on engine with minor wire tuck
  • Running each wire from my Fueltech to it's designated wire on my OEM harness and removing the OEM wire from there back to the plug (less wire)
  • Once all plugged in, tucked, and wired, I'll install mesh wire loom and zip tie secure

Hey BattleBornSS,

Any suggestions on how you wire in your alternator OBD1 to the ECU? Do you solely use the ignition wire or do wire in the other 3 wires (Field Reference, Control and Lamp)? Pretty sure L won't matter since you wont be using factory cluster anymore.
