Does engine knock disable VTEC?
As the title says.. My vtec currently isnt engaging, ive noticed some pinking under 2000rpm and wondered if this was enough to cut vtec?
other info. my vtec was working but i was loosing oil fast from my sump gasket. Vtec stopped working after getting this fixed. Ive spoke to the garage and they said the only plug they removed was the lambda sensor as they had to remove the manifold to remove the sump. Ive checked that this has been reconnected and it has.
Also im not getting a CEL light..
please help

Personally, if my engine was knocking I wouldn't be beating on it enough to need to hit VTEC; however, that's just me. Have you checked that your engine has the correct amount of oil in it currently?
what ^he^ said.
also, you do realize the sump is in the oil pan, and you don't have to remove the exhaust manifold to get to it, just the downpipe.
you also can't lose oil by having a leaky sump. you sure can destroy the engine though by having a leaky sump gasket, because it will suck air instead of oil, and you'll have near zero oil pressure at all times

ok maybe my wording was incorrect. The oil pan gasket was leaking and I was loosing a considerable amount of oil.
My oil level is currently slightly over filled, about 6mm over max level.

Check your oil pressure. VTEC requires a minimum amount of oil pressure to engage.
Also check your VTEC filter screen behind the solenoid for debris that can block flow.

update: Problem solved. The garage I took my car to removed the oil pan gasket and put it back on with sealant, this put the oil pickup to close to the bottom and caused a restriction. They have put a oil pan gasket on now.
Wtf?? I hope you never go back to that shop again. That's just plain hack right there, it wouldn't have stayed sealed for long anyway. Hopefully they didn't ruin the pan flange and mating face of the block in either of your visits.
The oil pick up is not that close to the bottom of the pan where the thickness of the gasket will cause interference. It was probably dented in. I would be worried about your engine bearings now. Get an oil pressure gauge!
