Default Ckf sensor as rpm input?

I'm contemplating a project that will require a dedicated rpm and map input, particularly since I can't poll the demon board for the data. Since I'm obd1 via a jumper harness the ckf is just sitting there, and it's nothing but a Hall effect sensor with a reluctor wheel, shielded wire and all. Has anyone tried to do this? Are you getting reliable output from it?

People have use the ckf and a crank sensor input into other EMS certainly

Curious what you're trying to do since you said a Demon is involved.

Playing around with the Arduino again

I'm trying to build a simple accelerometer, possibly with some logging capability. I'd like to eventually grow it into a full diy vehicle logger, but starting with a one component setup will keep me from getting in over my head straight out of the gates. I may or may not go so far as to add a tilt sensor to automatically correct for road grade and use the z-axis to correct for road roughness. We'll see how it goes.

The data would allow me to do coast down tests to generate a true overall coefficient of drag for the car. If I also grab a vss pulse and an rpm signal, I can calculate instantaneous torque output (in any gear!) as well. I can use pwm to scale an output and send raw acceleration data and the torque value back to the demon's extra inputs.

To keep it simple at first, I'll probably just send the acceleration only to the demon and rely on .csv's and excel to handle the math analysis after the fact. I'm not really sure how much processor it's going to take until I start getting in there. The overall idea is to use Excel to generate a table of torque values based on load vs. rpm, much like the fuel tables. I think this would be awesome for part throttle road tuning (if it works for ****).

The goal is to have the whole thing mounted on a proto board cut to fit in a spare obd2 ecu chassis. I can solder the the regular ecu header to the board as well and have tons of room for future expansion, all with oem functionality.

It's going to be a slow project, I've got a ton on my plate already, But it's something that I've been stewing on for a little while.

Just a little thought you can just use this.

http://www.aemelectronics.com/data-l...ata-logger-67/

Can do everything you want to do and you can get one for around 370 plus a harness around 160. You can do all the maths in the logger program itself if you want. Check out the AEMdata software.

Yeah if I wanted to just throw money at something, I would go with Race Technology over the AEM. I spent some time talking to the guy that does the Race Tech stuff at PRI, their software (and hardware) is by far the most capable stuff available outside of the professional level (Motec, etc). The AEM stuff does look great though.

I'm not at the point of needing anything though, this is more about doing than having. It's also about a $75 project to get started. It's not even going on a race car, spending money on it would be silly.

Have you looked at the new AEMdata software not the same as AEMlog from the EMS units.

I haven't. I'll check it out.

Still going to build my own though. It's for fun

there are some USB accelerometers that can be mounted to frame.
i was looking into getting one but forgot by now tanks for reminding, some of them come with a graphing software to log it.

maybe it could be used wit a direct logging port in neptune?
