Default CDI or COP (Inductive K-series)

What would you prefer on fast street car, and why?

CDI or COP with Inductive Coils (K-series)....

Are K-series a direct fit into a b-series? The the boot need to be trimmed? What about the seals?

Dudes -Which has a better Reliability? 3-wire K-series coils or external igniter?

(note - K-series coil better for DD, as you can get them a Dealer, if they fail)

What the difference in the way the engine revs after a COP installation? please feedback....

Does timing need to retard a bit, after a COP assuming engine is tuned at MBT?

no high voltage hazard during servicing....

With a adapter plate for K-series coils, any issues with the fitting of the spark plus seals in the valve cover? or do you need to put seals in the adapter plate holes.

Which adapter plate is has the best all-round fit

rywire
evans
others....

Is there a reason you want to know what type of coils are recommended when you dont have something to use it with? Your going about it all backwards...

does your motor/build warrant the need for an ignition upgrade? probably not...

If you are looking to jump on the COP bandwagon cause it looks cool and you have a couple grand to drop for no reason...you can pick up an AEM EMS and EPM. As for the coils, you can choose to use K series coils or some dumb coils with a CDI or AEM's coil driver.

Sure it looks cool! It gets rid of bulky parts and dumb looking wires that are a thing of the past. It also gives you the resolution and 100% control to individually tune cylinder ignitions for more power and better fuel economy.... If you want to stay a slave to distributors and plug wires. Then by all means stay in the dark ages with the primates. They will continue to sit there and throw feces around. Simply becuase they don't know any better!

benefit i guess is in the maintenance (cap/wires) and better spark at sustained r.p.m.s - tuneability of ind.ccyl.knock. inductive seems better as you dont have to worry about 540v in the engine bay.....only problem is i think a cover is needed on top to keep any water out

If you have a proper mounting plate designed/purchased for them that should be good enough to keep the water out. They have rubber seals just like the spark plug boots do.

If you have the tools you could probably make one of these; 4130 Custom Fabrication B series K-coil adapter plate... for a bit less... just materials and your time.... I can go to a local metal recycling place and pick up a piece of 3/8" or 1/4" aluminum plate any size and pay by weight.....
