Cannot get analog inputs working with s300

Default Cannot get analog inputs working with s300

Just got a fueltech egt conditioner to convert my egt to 0-5v output so i can log into s300. I have the conditioner wired in properly according to the instructions, but i cant get it to show on the s300. I have tried it wired to analog 0 and analog 1. Also tried grounding to the chassis and the egt conditioner ground. In the software i have tried selecting temperature as value type, and then custom with 0 and 5v matched with corresponding upper and lower limits as stated on the conditioner. Kind of at a loss, i have not had any luck with these analog inputs. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Are you seeing the raw voltages in you analog inputs without applying any conversions?



Best place to get power & ground is at the ecu (A25/B1 & A2/A24, respectively) to avoid any offsets - power doesn't matter so much as the ground does though. Whatever you do, avoid the temptation to ground to the analog ground on the S300. It's strictly not for power grounding.

Have you confirmed the unit is putting anything out on its 5V pin?

Id have to double check voltages without conversions in the s300. I do know the egt conditioner is getting voltage from thermocouple and voltage out as verified on the multimeter. I still have the physical gauge hooked up too and its properly functioning. I will try those power/ground sources over the weekend. Appreciate the help dude!

Voltage is not really the right way to test a thermocouple, they modulate resistance and the voltage across the wires should always be the same small value. The conditioner typically uses what is basically a pullup resistor circuit (a wheatstone bridge is the technical circuit term) to amplify that into something that changes enough to be useful. An analog-digital-analog, or maybe another pullup circuit converts that to a 0-5V scale. There are also pre-made ic's out there (most likely used here) that have all of this integrated to a chip that you just have to put it on a board and add wires.

Best way to test the unit overall is a candle test. You'll need to look at the documentation to figure out what the voltage should be on the 5V out for a given temp. https://support.michiganavionics.com/portal/en/kb/articles/is-my-egt-probe-reading-correctly#CANDLE_TEST
