Anyone using chrome? Opinions on it please!?!
Small breakdown....i have a fully built ls/vtec wit a garret .70 trim and all the goodies, base map in a p28 with chrome....should i just retune with what i have or switch to another management system? If so, which one? My car is daily driven, MAY see the track once or twice a year at most. Just lookin for reliability...thanks
Gabe
I did post in the "forced induction" thread as well....

i have been using crome for a long time, prolly like 5 years now, its an okay program for stock motors semi built motors, but its buggy thats just the way it is, half the time the ignition tables in the map arent what they really are..
if you have a fully built motor, i suggest you look into ectune and the moates demon package.. its a little cheaper then hondata s300 and does the same ****
www.ectune.com check it out when i get ready to build my vitara motor its what im gonna use

The Ostrich is simply a real time emulator. It allows you to tune in real time rather than burning a new chip with every change. IMO, and after many, many years of Crome is it works 'decent'. Seems to always have some type of problem, but with experience I'm always able to work it out. For a no BS, rock solid tuning platform I'd highly suggest the S300. Time and time again it works flawlessly. Crome on boost is even more troublesome than without as well
"hamotorsports"....yea i was gonna go with the S300 but ive had a few people ask wy dont i stay with what i have? (crome) my car is daily driven, wnt b run at track, only on street. Wnt change nutn unless something breaks, why change? Therefore i made this thread as well as one in the forced induction section.
I have noticed that most of yaw who have made a recomendation, are speaking from the "tuners" side. Im trying to figure this out on the driver/owners side.....
As we mentioned in the other thread, you'll get more usable features, less bugs, and a greater overall experience using a more polished system like NepTune or Hondata.
Crome will never get any better or have any bugs fixed.
eCtune hasn't been worked on or progressively (As in major fixes or new features) updated in quite some time.

But in all seriousness, do you think the people giving you advice are telling you these things because they are trying to lead you astray?
Crome is basically a dead program with no support. If you don't believe me.. try to email the developers or the author of crome and ask them why Crome is awesome and why you should run it on your car.
/end mini rant
I wouldn't listen to the "tuners" side, since they are the ones that actually tune the cars every day and have experience using the softwares on a daily basis.
Ok. Yaw are still not u derstanding my question. Guess ill have to be a little more blunt....example....i dont care HOW it gets fixed, as long as ut gets fixed....

F150 pikup or denalli pikup? Both pikups, both do same thing, just ones nicer with more "features"....all im trying to ask is if neptune, hondata, ectune and whatever else system is out there, any better than crome? I ALREADY have crome. Im just trying to figure out if i should change it....
As long as the jb weld sticks and doesnt leak!!!! Haha naw but see thats different. Id still have to go buy the jb weld. Myt as well take it to be welded...

I have noticed that both NepTune/Hondata have MUCH better idle quality than Crome ever has had, plus P72 vtec code has been broken for a rather long time, ELD doesn't disable properly, etc.
So if you are going for a retune, this is the best time to change your management!
Well we've already answered your questions and included why the other options are better. If you're still debating and haven't found your answer in our responses you should probably just stick with Crome.
THANK you "93turbo"! Thats what im lookin for. like ur example if the idle, stuff like that. Not wether i need scripts or other thingamagigys...haha or wether its easier to tune...
I will tell you I have never had a person upset with spending the money to switch from crome to neptune, s300 or ectune. The first time I start the car before I even start tuning they will have a smile on there face on how smooth it started and runs over crome.
im kind of in the same boat. my track car car was tuned on crome pro back in fall 2006. (1.8l block, ITR pistons, headwork, s2s2, p28, PLX-M300 etc.)
car made good power (215/165), but part throttle at VTEC crossover leaves some to be desired. i suspect its running lean at crossover, and the car bogs big time. this only happens at part throttle, WOT the car just pulls through it. ive been wanting to clean it up for some time now, but never had the chance. now that im getting it ready to go back on track i think i want to clean it up now.
ive obtained my duplicate license for my new laptop (free) and loaded up crome on my laptop. i also still have the BINs from tuning, but they might not be the final BIN that im running now. ill probably end up just reading the chip and loading the map from there.
what i would really like to do is use the Demon with crome. i would like to use the demon because my old setup used a serial datalog interface, and the new laptop does not have any serial, only USB. i would also like to have the RTP/romulator features so i can ditch my old willem (i know lol) and stop buring chips for every change. some resellers list crome compatability in the beta (1.5.5) whereas i currently have version 1.5.3. but then im reading some older posts that it does not support crome at all. so will crome work with the demon?
i realize that a full retune with new EM might be a more ideal solution, but i would spend a lot more to get new EM+ retune/dyno time + travel, just doesnt seem worth it when the majority of the tune is fine, and i just want to touch up some areas.
thoughts?

Yea i been pricing things out.... Roughly $500 for new EM, $500 for dyno/tune vs $300-$500 if i just stick with what i have....but Id rather spend the $1000 now if it makes that much a difference on the tune and reliability. From what im understanding, as lo g as the "tuner" is good with tuning crome, its just as good as hondata or any other EM for a daily driver....i still havent made a final decision and still researching it.

If you have the money, s300/neptune rtp/ectune rtp would be ideal
crome is software, an authorized tuner can burn a chip with neptune or ectune so you dont have to spend money on hardware such as the demon.
most places ive seen want you to buy all the hardware, then they tune on everything you just bought.
it does seem to make more sense to just use a different ECU to tune with (and reusable for the tuner) and create the map, then burn a chip and stick it in the customers ECU for the final product.
i would probably be interested in that, but me having crome, that would mean they would have to build a map from scratch (costing more in time), unless the crome map can be imported from my chip and ported to neptune or ectune or whatever.

You can copy and paste your maps into NepTune. They'll likely need some cleanup, as they are different softwares and will run a little differently.
