Default Noob P2D question

Hey guys, just a couple of questions I need answered for my build. I have a stepped GE B20 block.

First, I am wondering where I base my deck height from if the sleeves are protruding .002". I've searched google quite a few times/different ways and can't find a clear answer. I'm 90% sure it's from the top of the sleeves, but would just like to be at ease.

Second, I'm getting 0.016" from the top of the sleeves consistently. But, using the zealautowerks 'advanced' calculator and manually inputting my values, it shows I should be getting 0.0195" piston-to-deck. Just wondering if I'm missing something here or not.

If you're questioning the calculators, just clay it and find out for sure, calculators are for estimating.

Thanks, I guess. Still wondering if I am measuring correctly. Anyone?

So you measured .016" piston to deck clearance? (piston is beneath the deck .016") and that's including the .002" of the step right?
I guess you could calculate for both and split the difference. Worst case scenario, your off .001" on your PTD measurement (negligible).

good question..

They deck the block after sleeves are installed, so maybe the zeal calculator isn't taking this into account?
Skim off .003" to square up the deck (probably typical Im guessing?) and your right at what Zeal is calculating.

Sorry for not replying here, and thank you for the information provided.

Basically after searching, what I found is:
The deck height of a block is the measurement from the center of the crank to the top of the cylinder head mounting surface.
A couple other sources mentioned it's where the head seals off the cylinders, but the verdict is the same.

Since the sleeves protrude .002", my measurements are based from the top of the sleeves. Taking measurements across all cylinders I was at .016" P2D, with a slight variance in the tenths that I would attribute to my poor motor skills. Ha, that's punny.

Edit - Also, I came to the conclusion using the calculator as a basis of correct measurements was a bit silly. The fact of the matter is my real world numbers are based off exact measurements taken on my specific items.

Anyway, case closed. Thanks again for the help!

Good to see people actually taking the time to measure everything. Hopefully, your post will probably help others to come!
Real world measurements FTW
