New engine lube question
Looking for some input on my first engine build. So just finished assembling a b18 with forged rods/pistons and was using a little bit of lube on parts and some standard oil on some as well. Hand turning the motor was a little tougher than i thought it shouldve been, got easier once it rotated a few times. But now im thinking i shouldve used more assembly lube especially on the crank. Any advice to lube it properly before my first start up? Have i done any damage to the parts by just hand turning it already? I really dont want to have to tear the motor apart again to lube it up
You should be good to go. It turns by hand, you most likely moved the lube around fully. More lube is better but it's fine being it turns by hand now.
No damage was done, maybe a microscopic amount of wear was done on the bearings. No more than a cold start up does. As long as all your clearances are within spec, your motor should start up and break in just fine.

Yeah clearances are all good it just feels like it takes more effort to turn than it should. I assume pressurizing oil before my start up will re lube it and i’ll be ok
Assembly lube is much thicker than oil, it will cause a bit more resistance than oil and fill the clearances tighter than oil that drains away. It still spins freely by hand but may feel a touch tighter naturally.
Also you stated you used oil on some parts and assembly lube on others. You didn't give specifics, this info could be helpful to be able to provide accurate feedback.
