Jumped timing AND rod knock??? At the SAME time???
Well.. to say I'm preparing for the worst.. here i am. Boosted 2000 integra gsr head, b18c5 css block, wiseco pistons, acl bearings, eagle rods. Alright so I've been getting this car going to drive. Just been dealing with idling issues with new throttle body and intake. I got a friend to put the motor together and it has been doing well hadn't moved it an inch. So I look at the car idling one day and think oh wow that belt looks slack but I chalked it up to "all hondas do that" well I give it gas to see where the afr would go hoping to move it out of the garage and I started hearing a knocking noise. I shut it off and started looking around. I snapped this pic of the cam gears and I knew something wasn't right.
Those cam gears had seen better days so i ordered a new timing belt, newer cam gears, put the car back together and timed it to the best of my ability. Friend told me to do a compression test so I did. Granted this was when it was cold
and here we are today.. got the battery charging now. What would you do next? See if it fires up? Drop the oil pan? I can turn the motor over by hand. I'm new to this mechanical stuff I used to get in and drive but im trying my hardest to learn to work on cars and stop bothering my friend so much. Thanks in advance. Any info will help.
Re: Jumped timing AND rod knock??? At the SAME time???
Depending on how far the mechanical timing was out will determine a lot.
A leak down might be a good test to do to be sure the combustion chambers are still sealing. If they are and you have 20% loss or less, I would try and fire it up and see if it sounds normal.
You would have to seriously detonate to bend a rod, it's more likely you bent a valve. Even though a bent rod is possible.

A mechanic's stethoscope can help you locate the noise. Whether it's in the block, head or transmission.
Does the car have a turbo?
Right and Yes its boosted. I've held off on all turbo stuff I really enjoy rolling around minding my business but i got the next 4 days off so ill drop the oil pan and see what I can see. This sucks but I really want to get my hands on working on hondas to save money for one and I enjoy these things. I bought a borescope and didn't see any visible valve to piston contact which is good. Can I unbolt the connecting rod caps from the bottom to inspect them?
Re: Jumped timing AND rod knock??? At the SAME time???
Get a mechanics stethoscope before dropping the pan etc. It could be the turbo and not the engine. The stethoscope will let you isolate where the sound is coming from. Then you can decide your course of action,.
