Hey guys,
I recently put a Japanese sourced f22b engine in my 95 accord this last summer replacing a previous one that blew up. I just bought a turbo kit and dropped the pan today to tap a return bung and found lots of metal shavings with some large pieces that looked like pieces of bearings. We took off the valve cover and the cams looked great. I did an up and down movement test on the connecting rod bearings and they had no play in them. I'm assuming that some bearings on the crank are in the process of getting destroyed and its only a matter of time before a bearing gets spun and the engine is toast. I am looking for some advice on what to do. Ideally, I was going to leave the engine sock and try to make some low boost power on the stock internals but it seems like I need to rebuild that engine. With that being the case I'm looking for some advice on internals to replace while I already have the engine apart. I know that f22 ring lands are the first to go and was wondering if I could get away with forged pistons and a rebuild kit to make like 350 whp or if I should get rods as well or some other stuff I don't know about. Any advice to help me decide what do to next would really be awesome. I don't know a lot about rebuilding engines but Its not a daily and I have access to full machine shops here at school and I'm up for a huge challenge. Thanks guys!
I did some looking around and It seems like I can replace the crank bearings pretty easily. The engine ran super great before I dropped the pan So im guesing the bearing is just starting to go and was likely caused by low oil pressure from a clog. If i check those and if theyre bad replace them do you Think I'm good to go once I fix the low oil pressure issue? My friend thinks it could also be camshaft bearing material but I know some engines just use the engine head and cap smooth surface as a bearing. I would like to wait to do any engine rebuilding till I've had a bit of fun with some small amounts of boost as the engine has around 60-80k miles.
