Default Diy head porting dimpling question

Hi Iported a dozen head in the past and was woundering what you guys use to dimple or ruff up the intact side. I learned porting through my uncle thought porting BDS Top fuel blowers but never had to dimple anything. On the heads I have ported I use just leave the intake side a lil ruff not a full polish. Any help. TIA

I think unless it's a hobbyist, most porting is sent to the pro's and they put it in a CNC machine for precision porting.

I'm just cleaning up the ports and port matching I learned on cleaning up BDS blower intakes for v8s plus port flow started by hand porting heads not cnc

Started yes, but found to be folly much of the time. A flow bench doesn't tell the full picture as professional racing teams well know. It's a lot more complicated than days of old and has moved into precision porting done on CNC machinery.

I suspect even Endyn doesn't hand port anymore. I suspect it's all very specific machine work for exacting specifications.

Cylinder Head Preparation
My upcoming H/T EM1 project has an Endyn ported cylinder head... the bulk of the work was done on a CNC machine and the final finish in some key areas was hand finished. But yes, Larry does NOT hand port anymore.

Just because something was done one way years ago doesn't mean this same technique is the best there is today... especially when technology has improved the task immensely, and vastly increases the repeatability of the work between cylinder heads so that the function from cylinder head to cylinder head remains consistent.

Leaving it a little rough is good but I have never seen any reliable info about the dimpling. I understand the theory, but without evidence I am dubious that it is beneficial.
If anybody has any white papers on it Id love to see them.

I say just take it down to where you want it dimensionally, and stop there. You dont need to worry about the surface smoothness.
