Default Deck Height - How is it measured?

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone knew how deck height is measured or calculated. I know the specs of a D16Z6 block as well as all the other 5th gen USDM blocks, but I'm not sure how the deck height specification is determined nor how to verify?

Centerline of the crank to the top of the deck.

Hmmm, sounds like no easy way to DIY measure......

Thank you for the info.

Actually it just occurred to me. The cradle split is center line of the crank shaft. So if I can accurately measure from the bottom of the main cradle on the block side to the block top, that should match spec.

I was thinking about that while perusing this thread.

You can use that with some machinist's straightedges and some long calipers to get you within a few thousandths.

As long as the deck is flat, you can sandwich a straightedge on the caps, one along the deck, measure through the cylinders with calipers and get your heights.

Or have a machinist buddy check it and get you within a few ten-thousandths a lot faster and a lot surer.

Idk how else I would check it without a faro arm lol.
