Crankshaft run out?

I noticed slight crankshaft movement side to side on assembly, barely visible by eye. A .007" feeler guage is the largest that would fit between the thrustwasher and crank so its well within spec. I have just never had this much play before so was wondering what everyone else experience has been?
You SHOULD have SOME thrust clearance with the crank installed.
Crank RUNOUT is more referring to the crank straightness. Zero run out is perfectly straight. Just wanted to clarify so nobody gets confused.
Crank thrust aka endplay is best measured with a dial indicator.

yea sorry i meant end play, reading through threads and run out was on my mind. i usually get .04" range and cant feel it move or see it, but .07" i can feel, see, and hear, so i wasnt use to having this much play on a rebuild.
specs incase anyone else needs them
Crankshaft End Play
Standard (New): 0.10-0.35mm (0.04-0.014 in)
Service Limit: 0.45 mm (0.018 in)

I got .007" on my B7 block that had over 200K KM on it. I think I bought it with 264K KM.

.004" and .007" I think you mean. (4 thousandths and 7 thousandths).
Sounds about right IIRC. Crank endplay/thrust clearance has a little bit broader range of clearance than say main/rod bearing clearance. Search this section for a thread on crankshaft endplay/thrust clearance. I remember posting in a thread that was specifically about this subject.
Hat off to you sir for checking this clearance. Most don't even bother to check this and fortunately get lucky.
Since we're on the topic of endplay, if your running aftermarket rods and/or crankshaft don't forget to check the connecting rod side to side clearance( I forget the correct technical term) Its most likely fine but it should still be checked and verified ok.
