Icon5 b20b head rebuild for performance

So I'm just now learning about modding and engine performance and I really want to build my b20b. I've been doing research on my own about building a b20b. I don't plan on boosting it but I want more power. If I want to cam the head, do I need to send it to a machine shop to get anything done? Or is it just swapping the stock cams for performance cams? do I need to upgrade the springs, valves and other internal parts? I know this question might be pretty vague or possibly dumb but I am brand new to this and I really want to learn. Any help or recommendation would be appreciated.

Cam manufacturer would better answer that question. A mild cam could need nothing. A wild cam might need all of the above and machine work. Check the cam manufacturers recommendations for the cam(s) you are interested in.

The non-VTEC B series heads are a bit limited in RPM and cam size because of the rocker design. Try to spin it too high and the **** will fly apart.
As long as you keep your redline goals reasonable, a mild cam and valve springs will get you some really solid gains.

If you want to build a 200+ hp screamer, Id suggest getting a VTEC head to build with cams/springs and rebuilding the bottom end as well.

So update, over the weekend I was able to find a b20bz2 engine AND by luck a 1995 eg hatch to put the motor in. I'm going to have the head built by a local shop in town but I want to keep the block stock. Any recommendations for the internals I could use for the build? Pistons, rods. bearings and so on?

I'm really just looking to build a cool DD. I don't think I will be swapping the head for one with vtec just because I want to see if I can get some good hp out of the engine I have now.

If you're keeping the block stock, stock replacement parts are acceptable.
