b18c1 build, cam and valvetrain options?
wats uo guys, building a b18c1. mild build nothin too crazy. cp pistons, eagle rods, stock bore and compression....now its time to get the head ready and was looking for input as far as which route to go. the goal is around 200 whp with possible low boost in the future. any input on cams, valvetrain, porting? all input is greatly appreciated
ok, yea from what I've researched that seems to be the go-to options...what about valvetrain? as far as valve springs and retainers? i know there's a million posts about the subject but would just like to hear what people know are tried and true....not tryin to have any missteps in this build. thank you
good experience with them? right now I'm leaning towards the skunk2 tuner 1 with skunk springs and retainers. anybody have any input on those? i know there are many threads discussing that but would like a little more recent feedback
I say go for it, other than hearing *SOME* people complain about titanium retainers cracking from wearing down.... I think your okay to grab that Skunk2 setup and run it. Personally, I wouldn't be scared of the titanium retainers...
right on bro, yea im pretty sure im gonna pull the trigger on that setup. thanks for your feedback man i appreciate it. ill post any progress when the parts come in...looking to see if i can find anybody that can make that head flow better (port/polish) or should i just drop those in and run it. not tryin to go full race here just lookin for somethin solid. thoughts?

For the port / polish, I'd say try go on Google and see if you can do it yourself with a dremel tool. If you can't, just put the swap in and see how much it makes. If you want to pay and have it done, at that point, you might as well make sure the whole motor is built, so the port and polish wouldn't be wasted.
Let us know how the build goes... I say drop it in, check clearances with the cams your running and have it tuned.

Do not do a port and polish yourself as 416Gang suggested... this almost always ends up in a loss of power. Companies that do CNC porting have done an extreme amount of development and can control the removal of material in just the right places to improve flow at high rpm without reducing velocity at low and mid range rpms... maintaining performance all through the powerband. So, either pony up the cash and get it done professionally or leave it alone.
i totally agree. i wouldnt attempt to tackle that..i know its more than just grinding away material. gonna see if i can find a shop that has experience doing that. if not, like you said I'm just gonna leave it alone
just picked up the super tech complete valvetrain set for the gsr. its just the budget set but i figure that should be sufficient for what im tryin to do. not trying to make big power. any thoughts or anybody have comments about this choice i would love to hear it. thanks fam!
If you're just planning on using ITR cams then the supertech 70lb set will be plenty. I'm running an ITR valvetrain and cams in my hatch. It made 197 whp. My block is a gsr with ls crank/rods and b16 pistons though.
yea definitely. well the plan is to go boost in the near future so i was thinking those would do well with minimal boost. (get the most performance with least compromise i guess🤷♂️) but i do have the oem gsr cams. would you say run these for now and decide on a different cam when boosted? this is something I've thought a lot about and cant decide lol....so any input is greatly appreciated
