Got a F22b1 and I need to do a valve seals replacement, all the bolts to get the camshaft off are out but it still won’t budge, any advice?

Take the timing belt off and then use a flat-bladed screw driver to gently pry up on the cam caps (where there is an edge/corner that protrudes from the mating surface of the cylinder head). Remember that there are alignment dowels in the cam caps so they will be rather tight/difficult to pull up on. Your photo doesn't show, but if the distributor is still in place, you will have to remove it as well.

Set the bolts back in before you try to remove it. They act as retainers for the rocker assembly. This will save you the headache of trying to put it back together and getting it lined back up with the dowels when your done.

Timing belt and cam won't need to come off unless you're planning to pull the head to do the seals. They can be done in place if you provide support for the valves to keep them from dropping.

yep. the "pro" way to do it would be to pressurize the cylinder with compressed air through the spark plug hole to hold the valves in place while the springs are off. but the shade-tree string trick works too. feed string down onto the top of the piston through the plug hole until there is enough to support the valves. both methods have been used for ages so if you're planning to try it, look up a good explainer for all of the details.

to be fair, there is more risk doing it in place especially if you're doing all 16. the benefit is saving the time and effort to pull the whole thing out. I've done it both ways so there is definitely a time and place for each. but just know there is the option.

Yeah I’m no mechanic, so I’m trying to watch videos and the such but am having no luck finding any, whichever would be easiest. Not trying to spend $1.5-$2k

I've used rope before. A loooong time ago.

Take out the spark plugs, make sure the cyl you want to work in is at the bottom of the stroke, insert rope into the spark plug hole, fill the cylinder with rope. Slowly turn motor till you feel rope pushing on head. Do that cylinder.

I guess we should cover that- who quoted you $2k and how did they determine your valve stem seals need replacement?

Whats hourly shop rate these days? $100-150/hr?

Looks like a fair price might be $500-800; but I would still DIY it if you are capable, that's a good chunk of money.

Yeah, just for labor it’s super pricey, I have an old friend that said he could do it for $500 but I really don’t want to spend money when it can just be DIYd

Probably a very temporary fix. The valve guides are probably completely worn out and that's why the seals are leaking.
