what to change for drifting
hey, i want to get into some drifting at my local churchage so i want to know what i need to replace to make my ebrakes stop the wheel completely instead of slowing down the car. so meaning the tires will lock up in the back, how will i do this? and is it possible to drift a turn using front wheel drive? i assume cuz you turn steering wheel one way, pull e brake once you are turning, turn the steering wheel the other way as fast as you can and keep the gas comming?
Drifting is normally done in rear wheel drive cars, however, I saw one dude (professional) drift a Civic. As far as what to change to drift your Accord...you should probably change your whole car!
It is easier to drift in RWD applications but it CAN be done in FWD as demontrated by that guy in the Civic EF. You're gonna have to lighten your car to the bare essentials, engine, tranny and drivetrain. dump everything else specially the everyday comforts. Stay in 15's and get some good tires. change your brake lines to stainless steel, the list pretty much goes on, you still interested? With FWD "drifting" There's alot more skill required with the E-Brake and the ability to throw yourself into a drift harder than RWD ppl is going to be essential. If you're serious about it then you need to sit down and plan it out, it takes alot of research and planning to do it properly, weight distribution and so forth play a huge factor. Good luck.

Yeah, I vaguely remember seeing his car in one of the Honda Tuning magazines last year. He made the cover. IIRC it was black and some "pastel" color of some sort......or maybe it was dark green and black. Anyway, yeah FWD drifting CAN be done with major skills...but leave drifting to RWD.
And Michael......I don't think YOU were being singled out....just about every reply in this thread doesn't have actual help regarding the OP's topic....

Yea, but I think the OP was talking about drifiting in a FWD not a FWD modified into a RWD. Wasn't that FWD civic sponsored by Falken or was it just that the color scheme was very similar?

Hard(expensive) way to get car to drift...about $5-8 grand,
EASY way to drift a civic.....60mph turns in the rain
Excellent Lesson learned in Movies? Stop watching them! PRICELESS!

There is a Falken sponsored FWD Civic that "drifts".
I never understood the whole drifting thing... Especially when it's some kid trying to do it with the car that his parents bought him. Car gets damaged... Tires wear out in a matter of weeks... All the while, the kid is trying to make up excuses to his parents for why they have to keep fixing a car that was perfectly fine before he got a hold of it.
If you don't know how to drift already, I don't suggest you trying.

Well when I was in my teens I had a geo storm I could drift by just turning hard into a curve real early and giving the brakes a one good jab the back wheels would break free and the car would want to swap ends pretty hard I just had to give it some gas and steer through the curve. It was pretty fun really.
It just sucked when the car would do that when i didn't want it to.
A few years ago I had a 97 eclipse i could do the same thing in but was harder to get it to do it and it wouldn't stay loose as long.
I'd say get all the weight you can out of the rear of the car and do a rear disc swap if you don't have them already. I don't know if this would work or not but maybe you could just switch the brake balancer so that the rear grab harder then the fronts. if your going fast enough to drift once the rears break free you car keep it out with the gas brake and steering. it just takes getting the feel for.
But dude really find somebody that has a 240z with about 2-3 kids and just trade

Get some skinny *** tires!!!!
Why would you want to drift anyways?
Dont just do something because people talk about it and it sounds cool?
Best drift vehicle on the road "Nissan 240SX".
Get a hold of one and.......drift away!!!!

I dont really recommend it, but I drifted once in a while when I'd rally in my accord. yes the ebrake is used in this and make sure you dont have anything above 16 inch rims when you do this, the low pro tires will cause the car slide soooo fast itll be difficult to react in time, and you could really hurt somebody, including yourself.

you should really stick to what you know
you should really stick to what you know
So the lesson here seems to be:
Keep the wheels smallish
Reset your brake lines
Make sure your Ebrake cables are in good condition
Strip down the car to lighten it
Be careful

Remember, this could be you.
