s2000 & Drifting
Hi all!
I am on market for a rear wheel drive car in order to use as for daily car but also as for drifting(amateur) car.
Some days before i spoked with some drift guys and they told me that s2k is not a drift car..it needs many mods to work well on drift! They suggested me for a bmw like E30 and E36 with a straight six engine which has a lot of torque!
I belive in JAP RULEZ and jap cars they are reliable like no other...and i am a kind sad for what i heard for the s2k...What do you guys know about the s2k can drift well?
Also i know that only the AP2 has limited slip dif and the AP1 has not is this true??
Thank you in advance!!!

A "240" is a short way of saying a Nissan 240SX. Other names (in other domestic markets) sometimes call it the Silvia, or S13, S14, S15, etc. Older variants like the 180SX are also pretty good for drifting.
The S2000 not very good because of it's handling characteristics. They are much better suited for grip driving.
Also, both the AP1 and AP2 have limited slip differentials.

If you put a 2 way diff and forced induction on an S2000, you could make it a decent drift car. Definitely not for amateur drivers though. Although....why would you buy such an expensive car just to ruin it? I crashed my S13 once...and i put a sticker on the front of the damaged bumper that read "drifting has ruined my life". I was able to laugh because S13s are cheap and plentiful. Good luck finding an S2000 for replacement parts at a junkyard.
There are many incompatibilities with the stock S2000 making it very hard to hold a drift. Including a 1 way torsen diff, the geometry of the rear suspension, the lack of torque, and a very narrow window of opportunity in powerband. I can make mine slide semi gracefully (i do it to F around somtimes...because its fun). I used to have a sr20det S13 before...so...yeah.
S2000 is much more suited to road racing or autocrossing as someone before mentioned. I use mine to roadrace. I used my S13 for the same thing...but the S13 (240SX) was 100X easier to hold a drift with. The S2000 is easier to get it initiated, though.....you just wont be able to hold it very easily.
BTW......DA MOON RULES #1, ok? not JAP RULEZ.
