Drifting rules?
to the forum,
I'm trying to find any type of rule book for North America, or Japan if it exist. I'm building a car this winter and want to make sure I don't break any rules.
cheers,

um last i heard there was no sanctioning body for drifting in the US apart from D1 and i dobut you are good enough to drive with them. you never know but its a very elite group.
BTW drifting is gay.
grip racing owns it.

Don't get me wrong,
I'm involved in a ground breaking drag car and hoping to do a drift car aswell, as a shop I want to get involved in two of the top styles of racing in North America.

ps. nothing wrong with research.

thats like saying paiting houses is gay and chopping trees owns it....
drifting is a show sport
driving ( grip) is a.. well... driving sport!
drifting has no rules, get your car to slide sideways while under control and you get props, stick your hand out the window you get more props, open your door with your left foot while waving to the crowd you get maaaaaad props.
ps, since were on the flaming subject
rally > circuit racing > drifting
then there is stuff like laundry and work, school is in the middle there, ohh and dont forget sleeping, and i guess when you finish your list you can stick drag racing someplace in there.... maybe after "watching paint dry"
OOOOO i'ma get flamed

Don't think so. They both require a car & immense amounts of talent. One is done for time and the other is done for points and both are very fun.
Thnk: Pick up the current issue of Grassroots Motorsports, they have a huge section on this. http://www.usdrift.com/main.html is probably the best place to start and look forward to the SCCA picking up drifting under Formula D in SCCA Pro Racing.
And fellas, referring to it as 'grip driving' is ridiculous. They are both about grip. Think about it. Using the term 'grip driving' is the moral equivalent of prounouncing to the world that you are a couch racer who is trying to denounce another form of racing that you think is stupid even though you have never participated in either one.
Cheers,
Sean

i have never participated in in circuit racing....
but i have tried drifting in a FWD.... weeeeee and i have battle scars to prove it ( even tho there more like stupidity scars)
but also drifting and circuit racings ARE VERY DIFFRENT, just read up that article in ( i forget which mag... its about 2 months old now i think) where a dude in an AE86 beat the super car competition just because he had more skill driving an underpowerd and underfunded car.
in circuit racing if your team is under funded and the engine in your car is the only one you have for the whole year, chances are your not gonna finish first unless you are some sort of GOD.
drifting can also be practiced in the parking lot with friends watching. Try practicing doing turns at 50 mph in the streets, one wrong move and you kill yourself the person you hit.
so yeah... i still stand that comparing circuit racing to drifting is like comparing painting housed to chopping trees.
