Ironically I posted this because I think the drifting 'trend' and both sides of the argument for and against it are stupid. The guy calling to ban me has low reading comprehension skills, I guess. Thanks for ruining my opinion of the average intelligence of Honda-tech guys!!

I know that much... but whenever I call a ban for someone I usually leave the 'banee' in the reply title instead of someone elses name.
See where im coming from with this?

Goddamnit, I come into these threads hoping to read a cohesive argument in favor of drifting. Come on, I know full well there are a ton of people on this board who think its the ******* cat's meow, so step up and explain why it is anything more than a moving form of rice.

because no matter what any of these closed minded guys say, it takes an ASSLOAD of skill to drift a car going straight.

<- former drift hater, now respects it because of how much skill it takes.

nobody should bash it till they try it.

Actually, if you knew much about it, you would know the tire wear isnt much more than road racing. ive seen 3-6 hours of actual track time on a good tire for drifting. we are talking Azenis or better here.

im not saying drifting is better than ANY form of racing, because its not, but it seems like thats now the trend from you honda guys to bash people who drift. nothing i can say will sway any of you but i used to hate drifting with a PASSION, even when i owned my 240. but after trying it ill never talk down on it again, apart from the fact its for show

See, I "talk down on it" becuase of the very fact you just stated. Its for show. It is not a motorsport, it is an exhibition. It doesn't matter how much skill it takes, it is performed solely for the "oh wow" factor. Drifting is the slowest possible way around a turn, and in the true spirit of an enthusiast, I dislike that which sacrifices performance for appearance.

so if its not the fastest you dont like it? ill garuntee there is at LEAST 1 thing you have done to your car that has nothing to do with horsepower or 100% performance.
you call yourself an enthuisast but you only respect the skill it takes to go the fastest not full car control. sounds like you are as closed minded as the rest

know what, im done with this tread. its like trying to tell a bunch of mormons their religion is a big joke. no ******* way they will belive you no matter how convincing you are.

Thats a ridiculous argument. Yes, I respect the skill it takes to go the fastest while in total control. Who cares if the guy drifting is in total control of his car while he is showing off. I expect anyone in a car at anytime to be in full control of his car. Thats not any special skill, thats is basic responsibility when operating a 3000 pound mass of metal.

if you could drift an old muscle car, then i'll give you credit. except, we always called it powersliding and controlling the car through a tight turn. oversteer is fun.

3500lbs
455cid v8 w/ 505 lb-ft torque (buick holds the torque record at 525 lb-ft in a 70 GSX)

rear solid-axle
positrac
4-speed hurst
and bias-ply goodyear wide-oval tires

now, if you can drift that, i'll give you credit. thats what i used to "drift" around in. btw, it was a 68 olds 442 w-30. that was a fun car.

seriously, why spend a ton of money on building a quick car and not take it racing, but just slide around a parking lot? it just seems like a waste to me. racing is much more fun, more competitive, more rewarding, and well...better.

that is your opinion and you are certainly more than welcome to express it. but, it is arrogant to say that one type of motorsport is "better" than another solely because that is your opinion. someone with intelligence understands that there are different kinds of people in this world and different people like different things.

i used to obsessed with grip driving, and one day i downloaded this video of some people drifting and i was holy ****, those people can control their cars at the most extreme point. i didnt look at it and say, wow, those people are idiots, on a road course i will demolish them. i took what was good from it and built off of that. its undenyable that drifting takes extreme amount of skill, i know because i know many people in the 'scene' and ive done lots of drifting myself in my own cars and others'. i have taken certain aspects from drifting and applied them to grip driving and made my skill even better. instead of saying something just sucks, you should take the time to look at it and extract the good from it rather that simply dismissing it as 'gay' or whatever your word choice may be. (im speaking to everyone, not just you)

i do agree that drifting itself is not really as competitive as road racing but that also makes it more fun. most people dont care about winning at all, and there really are no losers. you go out there, you **** around with your car, have some fun, and come out a better driver who has more knowledge of what his car is and isnt capable of. that how i look at drifting.

I guarantee you can't break 100 on a real course and thats a sucky score. What you do at the driving range with your retarded friend has nothing to do with the sport.

And those that have an argument against golf probably think that its an inferior sport compared to something like football or baseball (which you probably can't play either). I find it pretty difficult to be good and I'm a gifted athlete. The one argument I have against golf is the cost.

Sorry to go back OT, but I just need to correct some jackassery.

what skill do you learn in drifting that you can apply to driving in everyday life?
they control a car that has been set-up to slide around easily...they put the car in that slide and then they correct it. what happens if the car snaps loose while on ice or in rain or when a tires blows out. it isn't the same. a good driving school will teach you the techniques to control a car in a situation that is sudden and to many, uncontrollable.

i agree, it is everyone's opinion. i quite honestly see no point to it, i have tried to understand it, i truly have. but, at the end of the day... i have no use for it. i don't think drifting will ever become a mainstay in autoracing, it will not last along time. but, people said that about drag racing on abandoned military runways. and now look at the professions of going straight.

yeah professional drift cars are set up to drift, but many people that drift for fun dont have those setups. and regardless, before you learn how to drift good, you spin out, you **** up, and sometimes you hit ****. all the while you learn the limits of your car and you are better able to understand how it reacts in certain situations. im sure you thought your response made sense, but it wasnt really thought out at all...

theres no real use for any of the the other motorsports either - think about what you say. its merely for fun. some people like to drive down a track for fun, some people like to go around a road course, some like to autocross, and some like to drift. its perfectly understandable that you may not find drifting fun, but the fact of the matter is that many other people get enjoyment out of it and its arrogant to think that only what you like can be fun for everyone.
