couple of quick pix. story and more pix to u/l later.

GR suckers his way into instructing as usual...

GR & DrifterX (Komatsu) who is I think Signal's drifter. They came out to do the demo runs. Komtasu did not qualitfy for D1GP in Japan, but yet he was easily the best drifter of the day. The real difference is high speed drifts. Drift tuning on the car plays a big roll on that though. On the right is Justin. He started working for Signal recently. I met him previously at a SpeedTrialsUSA event and he was kind enough to let me try his FC.
At this event I had some good practice in my friend Todd Ho's stock FC (pretty easy to drift, but no LSD sucks), and Berry C's AE86 (low budget but it handles/drives nice!!!). The AE86 is super easy to drift. Didn't even have to use clutch kick or e-brake (except to do a super tight donut).
A quick shout out to Moto and all the staff and instructors. The event was very well organized. I came off very impressed with how smooth it ran.

Looks like a blast. By the way, that Signal car is a 180SX with S15 bodywork, not an S15. Just a regular old S13 hatchcrap like mine under the skin
I wish drift events were more accessible out here on the east coast - right now all we have are Hype-R-Fests and the monthly events in Englishtown's parking lot, neither of which I've been able to attend yet.

Actually, I think maybe a new forum. Lets leave this one to real competition, not something "judged" -
Possibly it could be titled: Drifting / Rollover Contest / Jet-powered Port-o-Jon forum

and to think i used to like HT so much better than the nissan forums because there wasn't any discussion of the tail-out-jackassery known as dOrIfTo

Ya know, just because I wanted to bring this dead thread back
, I was thinking about drifting and all the, well, what you described it as - "jackassery" - and I thought of something: You know, if people who like "drifting" really want to see some REAL drifting, in a real head to head, wheel-to-wheel environment, not some "show off for the judges and hope for a good score" beauty pageant, they already have a source for that: World of Outlaws dirt sprint cars! THAT my friend, is REAL drifting. 700+ hp in a 1000 lb or so car, with the driver stradling the bellhousing of a monster V8, tail end hung out 45 degrees 80% of the way around the track, inside front tire sometimes over a foot off the ground under the twisting pressure of a massive power-on oversteer slide. F@CKING A! Oh, did I mention they're not out there trying to impress the crowd or a judge like some "look'a me" assmonkey? They're racing ***** out against each other actually trying to win fair and square, not get the best score....
It makes me sick that the SCCA is talking about incorporating this sideshow activity. I thought it was funny to watch at HypeRfest last year at Lowes, but for the "hey, lets watch the moron contest" type of reason. Kinda the same reason people watch people bust their asses on blooper shows and get a kick out of reading about Darwin Award winners.
A real sport? Give me a friggin' break.

Here in Cali we refer to such 'jackassery' as 'DAMN SLIDERS'. Often frowned upon DE's due to the fact they are always going off and kicking rocks on the track and screwing it up for all the time trialers.

In that case, better keep that "drifting" part to the RWD HT section.

And those time trialers aren't going off and kicking up rocks themselves? Let's not play the blame game.
Sincerely,

that's true... too many wannabe drifters that have zero fundamentals... they're the ones that go off track too freqently and make mess. a lot of these guys need to learn the basics from grip racing first.
i just came across a best motoring video from 99 that showed drifters being converted to grip racing. it's a good segment. the mandarin sub title was quite good and it got good technical info.
