What is a harmonic balancer?
At our track here in atlanta, if u run 10.99 or faster you have to have a "harmonic balancer". What is a harmonic balancer?
BTW--i'm not running 10's im just curious as to what this thing is.

where?, what does it look like? All I see when I pull off the pulley is the bolt, pulley made entirely of metal, washer, and timingbelt keeper... where is the balancer?

the harmonic balancer is the crank pulley. if you dont have one it puts a lot of stress on the crankshaft and could even break.

i drove with mine off before and didnt even know till the battery died 2 hours later... i was wondering why my car seemed like it was revving ****** quick... sat on my axle and the axle spinning wore a crescent moon right into the side and ruined it.. also tore my boot
ok, so if the crank pulley is the balancer, then what difference would it make if you had a N1 pulley or one from Unorthadox, as long as you balanced it to the motor? I know on the V6/8 motors it's some sorot of big weight that helps the crankshaft from vibrating all over... But on our cars I don't see such a part.
if you dont use one, you will get awful vibrations and probably crack the oil pump gear
This is why teams like jotech can still use a stock oil pump, they use a damped pulley to get rid of vibrations, which is what makes the oil pump fail.

I think the only engines that have any type of balancer in them are the H22 and up motors. If I'm wrong please correct me.. but I'd also like to know where exactly the HB is on the B series... if it is indeed present.
So the crank pulley and the HB are the same thing, in that case why would it make any difference if one used the N1 pulley, or better yet shaved the stock one? As long as it is balanced I don't see where it would effect the motor's longevitiy... I'm just trying to understand what in the hell is going on with the whole "You can't use the ultra light pulley" statements.
i ran a DH-racing pulley for over a year. never a problem.
BISI- runs the same DH-racing pulley on his 10.1 all motor race car. swears by it.
you figure it out. its all in your head...

the heavier it is the better it does to lessen the vibrations caused by the motor... the lighter it is, the less it does its job, no matter how balanced it is...
