V-Drags
Thought you guys might find this interesting. ShowdownUSA
Its a indoor racing/drifting trunament. They have shows all over the country. ShowdownUSA Schedule
Race your car, win and take home the cash pot.
Here is some info that I got off their site:
V-Drag™ Racing System
Using patented, innovative roller technology, the Showdown USA V-Drag™ Racing System gives the audience and drivers the excitement and energy of high performance drag racing inside major arenas across the country. From the comfort of your seat you see every burnout, every hole shot, and every checkered flag. It’s match racing like you’ve never seen it before.
Cars are secured on the V-Drag™ platform with their drive wheels positioned on specially designed rollers. At the green light both cars accelerate and the system records performance of both drivers over a quarter mile. Racers must use their best driving skills and extract the highest performance from their cars and motorcycles to win. Miss a shift…you lose. Too much wheel spin at the starting line…you lose. Over-rev your engine and it can blow up.
A high definition graphic representation of the race is shown on the display. It electronically deciphers the real progress of the racers and then accurately depicts it through on-screen animation. At the finish line, the audience sees each car’s speed and elapsed time as well as RPM, trap speed, and other data.
Vehicle Retention – The system utilizes roller platforms that allows several cars or motorcycles to drag race while remaining in a stationary position. The cars are secured by series of winches and straps that hold the car from two directions to keep the drive wheels positioned over the rollers. The system provides resistance to simulate the real track conditions of a street or drag strip. As the competitor's cars exert force to turn the rollers positioned under their tires, the system collects data to determine reaction times, elapsed time (E.T.) and speed over a distance.

its not all about how much power you make. You actually race the car. They have a staging light and a tree so its just like a drag race.
They imput all the info of the car ( ie: wheight) hook it up and you are ready to go.
Sounds verry interesting imho.

true, but its the next best thing if you live in a city where they don't have a race track, or it rains/snow all the time.
you also have a chance of winning a large sum of cashola........

I was watching the trailer in the multimedia section. I was particularly amused by the guy in the wheelchair wearing the hockey/Friday 13th Mask trying to do a burnout and the girl or what appears to be a girl pushing the guy. Lots of dramatic effect in the advert.

reminds me of something they do here locally in the cold winter time of the year... they call it dyno drags. basically they use mustang dynos with a variation of the dyno software that is supposed to give you a recreation of an accurate run down the strip.
in the end, when amusing it is is hardly accurate. you see street tire cars cutting 1.2 60 ft times and running big mph/ low times that are pretty far off from being anything you could do on any track on this planet. fun though I guess for some... the big thing here is doing it like bracket racing.
definately not my cup of tea, but some ls1 guys, mustangs, trucks, and hotrods seem to be there every week when it starts... not many fwd or turbo cars do it.

^^^ yup thats about what it is. their machines are farelly accurate. My friend entered his car and did his quallifying and pulled a 12.8 @ 114 mph. Second run he did was a 12.5 @115 mph and thats about what he runs at the track on drag radials. On slicks at the track his best run was a 11.8 @ 116.
So these machines seem to be really close to the real time people get at the track.

So how many of you actual went last night, to the Tacoma Dome. I showed up at 6:30 for a 7:00 show, thinking the place would be packed. It was empty. The show didn't get started until almost 8:00. There was no explanation on how the cars were quailified and how it was decided who would race who. The announcer was completly lost and it showed this was the first event. The motorcycle stunt guys did their best, but the surface was nothing like they were use to. The wheel chair racer broke, the gamboni broke, the hearse broke, it was a bad night for the event. When I mean they broke, I mean they stopped working, no thrill no blowing up with parts flying, they just fizzled out and broke. Only one honda was there and it broke just after it started. Half the fans left, and by the end of the event, I don't think there was 500 people in the Dome. You have to give credit to all the producers, they tried real hard to make the event work, but it was really bad. Even the owner or driver of all the show cars, threw his papers on the floor in disgust after the hearse broke. It was really bad save your money.
Well for the first show they did have lots of problems. But that was to be expected up to a certain point.
The drifters had lost of fun and performed well for what they had to work with. I was there all night and I have to say that I was a little dissapointed with some things, but I have a feeling that will get better for the next show.
I think that the first place drifter won $700 and same with the bikes.
