Default transmission issues

i posted in the trans section with no responses...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After my last track trip my car has developed a few new problems. First off. Right off the trailer during the 1st pass the car vibrates under acceleration. I thought it was the intermediate shaft so I checked it. There's no up and down play in the bearing but slight in and out play as-in in and out of the trans. Next I was checking the inner cv's and noticed on the drivers side the splines from the axles to the intermediate shaft splines have a fair amount of play...its not the axle because I tried a spare so are the intermediate shaft splines worn or is this normal? never really noticed before. My other problems lie with the trans. It got hard to put the car in 1st and reverse with the engine running...I also tried with the engine offf and it still "hits a wall"...if I rev the engine to like 2k with the clutch in it will slip into 1st.... if anyone knows anything...let me kno sorry for the story length post but I'm stumped

I have to agree with the posts above, something is not right in the transmission.

Seriously though, I've been rebuilding my DSM trans for a couple years now but never a honda. I believe they are extremely similar however. The intermediate shaft is in the trans and very difficult to just "check" without taking it apart. Do you mean the input shaft? At any rate we set up our input shafts with preload for race applications. On stock trans they can have up to 2 thousandths of endplay.

To me it sounds like the input shaft has too much endplay which then goes away once the trans is warmed up. Also the honda trans may put 1/2 and R on the input shaft which would explain the 1 and R problem. Also could be a shift fork issue and/or whatever assembly honda uses to actuate the shift forks.

Take it apart and repair it. There is no magic fluid to make it work better, it needs serviced.
