The type r trannies have different gears and final drives depending on year, so make sure or the year. Second, the factory type r lsd is junk for drag racing. You will need a good lsd no matter which tranny you go with. I would buy a lsd and run the ls. If you need a different final drive then buy that too or start with a gar or delssol

Agreed, factory type r diff is not good for drag racing. Plus type r gears are really short. You'll have serious traction issues. Go with the ls

run gsr gears with that tire size and 130ish mph. you want to run through the traps high up in 4th gear. you shouldnt have traction issues with those ratios and a 24.5" slick.

i run gsr hydro trans trapping mid 120's and i go through the traps at about 8400 rpms in 4th

Stay with the 24.5. Choose your gears and final drive so you are going through the trap in 4th. No 5th gear BS. An LS in 4th gear @9000 with trap 159mph. Unless you're going to make a big jump in power and goal you're going to need a shorter FD. a 4.4 will do 142mph @ 8,000 and 154@ 9,000. I'd recommend at least a 4.4 FD
