trailer tie downs?
how do you guys tie your honda/import cars down to trailers
i dont like tying to front suspension and then to back and pulling the other way...thats how weve been doing it on domestics for a long time...
but with $thousands of dollars in suspension and alignment it scares me....nor do i like tying to the body of the car because of suspension compression....my dad and bro-in-law lost a 55 chevy truck body like that....what about tire tie downs? and pics appreciated

we put a wood block under the middle of the rear of the car, so it cant bounce around. i have heard this ruins the shocks. and the bouncing of the vehicle would obviously make the towing alot worse.
we strap around the front lower a- arms, and the rear gets strapped at the lower wheelie bar connection.

i use d-rings through the tow hooks up front crossed, and in the rear, the factory frame holes in front of the rear tires, again crossed. dave thats a great idea about the blocks. i think i am going to try that for atco in aug.

that sounds good if you are talking about the trailing arms... any other suggestions???

nah nah nah, under the car in front of the rear tire, there is an oval hole, transportation companies used to deliver our cars to the dealer. i use that. i dont like tieing to the suspension. ill use trailing arms as a last resort, but thats just me.
i still aint feeling pulling the body down... i dunno...maybe im just paranoid but it doesnt feel right and all our cars have 10k to 12k springs in the front and minimal suspension travel

you see what i mean
you pull the body down but cause of the spring rate youll never get it all the way down
so even if your careful of the roads there are always bumps
sorry so paranoid but you guys know how much this **** costs...

Pitpal makes a air inflatable pad that you put under the front a rear of the car then lift the car slightly so you pull down of them instead of the shocks..
Im not that hightech but if your worried about it....check it out...

me too, but seems that they worried cause it still lets the car travel cause you can never hold tighten the suspension all the way down with the high spring rates.
Those that tow on the front tow hooks crossed, do you bend your hooks when you tighten it up??

Howard, do you have a link for that. its sounds like a good idea.
another thing we used to use on the dirt oval cars is a chain. jack the car up. then chain around the suspension to the lower framerail, that way you can let the car back down on the tires, but all the weight would be on the chain/framerail and not on the suspension.

i dont want the car to move but i dont want to damage the suspension ....or have the car bounce and come unhooked either.....i appreciate all the help if i had posted in other sections people prolly would have flamed me severly....
using body points (tow hooks) isn't really a good idea due to the suspension travel as already said. I almost lost mine this way. I had the car perfectly centered on the trailer like usual, and was traveling down a moderatley bumpy road. At one point, I looked in the rearview and noticed that one of the slicks was half way off the trailer!

no, basicly what you want to achieve, is the body/chassis, sitting on blocks on the trailor floor.

</TD></TR></TABLE>i get to see a lot of car carriers, and lately i been seeing them strap the car down via a strap through the rim or over the tire! does anyone have a link for that block, to put under the car? i might just pick up a couple of plastic pallets from my job, and try it out when time is available!
