Default Tech question about tranny

I know we're not supposed to ask tech questions in this forum but most of the experienced people stay in this forum. please bear with me for a sec.

Ok. So I'm trying to install my LSD into my GSR tranny. I split the case from the bell housing and everything. Went to pull the input and counter shaft assemblies out and they wont budge. I've done this before so it's not like I don't know what the hell I'm doing. Has anybody ran into anything like this before? I was told this tranny was still good and only popped out of 5th every now and then. The gears and everything look great visually. They just won't come off of the bell housing. Any takers?

did you make sure to remove the reverse gear and reverse fork and the gear selector?

iv had something like this happen a couple times when taking trannies apart... the actual mainshaft in my cases would sieze up against the bearing in the "bellhousing"

2 things u can try if this is even the case. make sure everything and anything that could hold the gears in is out! u can pick up the tranny slightly off the ground (if thats what ur doing it on) and kinda "slam it" or drop it lightly on the ground. the main shaft sicks oua a bit and sometimes this helps to get it movin... only drop half the case... the half where the mainshaft goes through and leave the differential half touching the ground. (im not sure if im explaining this correctly.)

if that doesnt work, make sure u have another person and stand the casing to the same position it would be if it was in the car running. then with a mallet with nominal force hit the main shaft. when it starts moving make sure someone else is there to hold the gears as well as so they dont just fall out. personally i just bang it enough to loosen the gears; put the tranny back down and pull the shafts out. if this doesnt work imo there has to be something else in the way of it coming out

i know this is by no means the "correct way" to do it. f*ck it though... it works, it works fast, and iv never had a problem...

hope this helps

you'll need a set of extra hands for this! this is what i do: i pick up the bellhousing by holding on to the bottom of the mainshaft and the middle of the countershaft, and have a friend smack the bell housing with a rubber hammer until the gears come loose!
