Default Stripped threads on block

Well I replaced my Golden eagle head studs with arp this time around. All studs went in fine except the second one on the intake side from the dizzy. I finnally got the bolt down after chasing and cleaning the hole out. As I was torquing my head down at only 28 ft lbs the stud mentioned above lifted taking all the threads with it. Have any of you guys had this happen? With machine work will it still be good to hold the 80 ft lbs of torque to torque the head down and 30 pounds of boost?

its a steel thread insert unlike the cheap aluminum helicoils

I'm sure any reputable machine shop can do it, They'll use a "special" type of steel timesert.

the helicoils i was talking about are very strong and we have fixed many stripped heads with them at the machine shop over the years, but yes a sert will also work. truthfully we have found that helicoil repairs are much stronger then the original aluminum threads.

I have timeserts in all of the headstud threads, 1 was messed up so I decided to go with all of them for no worries in the near future.

I've heard timeserts are the way to go for head stud threads. Helicoils are not aluminum however, and are always stronger than the original aluminum threads.

i had this happen to me. i used timeserts on 4 of the threads to repair, but they were the larger time serts so i actually had to order prelude head studs. everything worked out though.

i actually got the timeserts from a buddy that works for saturn. they have repair kits to repair their block threads that are the same size as hondas thread pitch and size.

if you know anyone or can get the hook up thats the way to go

I have used both products. Time-Serts are very expensive if you buy the kit for Honda's....was in the 500 range last I checked. Helicoils on the other hand are very cheap and get the job done for around $100. You just have to make sure you get the 22mm helicoil as the 16.5mm ones don't work as well. 22mm helicoils can be found on Ebay for $20....smallest pack I saw was 20.

Good luck

I had timeserts installed into my block for less than $300, one of the best $300 spent thats for sure.

You also have the option of just going to a 1/2" stud.

timesert is the way to go. i did 5 out of the 10 stud holes on my block over 3 years ago and boosted the **** out of that engine with no problems. at the time i was lucky because timesert had JUST came out with the kit to do honda head stud holes...it wasnt $500 like someone mentioned it was $300-400 for the whole kit.

never use a helicoil to fix a head studs its just not the right way to fix them. best thing to do is what most are saying use timeserts so its done right the first time. never do the 1/2" head studs either its a wast of time eggum ran in the 7s close to 1500hp with our standard hard studs. if your 1/2" the head studs problem is you will always have to have your gaskets cut to match and thats a pain not Worth it at all

I have fixed at least 10 different blocks using this kit and have never had to repair the same hole again. I had a customer with an LS block that had helicoils in every hole which were pulling out. I removed the coils and installed 10 new timeserts. The car has been running for the last 3 years with no problems.
TIMESERTS FTW !!

You can also use L19 head studs gives it a better clamping force for standard size. And threads on stud are stronger just don't cross thread! Arp makes them and A1 technologys.........Just harder metal ,better??
