Smallest open trailer?
Does anyone know what's the smallest (length and width) open trailer I can get to tow my '95 hatch? I'm currently towing with a dolly but hate the fact that I can't back up with it. Should I go with a dual axle or single axle?
I don't have much room for parking, so I would have to get the smallest possible.
Thanks in advance.

get a dual axle a full weight car on a single axle tows terrible, and get a 18ft a smaller one will work but you have no room to hook tie down straps plus if you ever need to tow anything bigger you cant
I towed both, what are you towing with?
i had my hatch on a small utility trailer, drove 250miles no nopi ny and 300 miles to mir, single axle, i never got to measure it so i am not totally sure what size it was,
it dident pull bad if i would get up past 75mph it wouldl feel like ****, i also was towing it with my 97jeep little cherokee

i would tell you to suck it up, and stick with the dolly! a 18' trailer will need about 22' of linera space, for you to be able to park it at your house. you could buy a single axle(14' i'm not really sure on the lenght, aluminum trailer(light, and expensive). my friend had one, that he used to pull with his crv. he towed a civic hatch(eg), completely stripped maybe 1800lbs!
i have a 16" open deck, my civic has about 1" of side between the front tires with the slicks on it, and fits just fine in the middle. my friend also fit his 68 Cutlass on it as it was his before i bought it fro him.

Just remember to at least get a tandem axle trailer. Don't spend the money on a small single axle. They will pitch while reversing just the same as a dolly. I would go with the Big Tex 60CH. It is their cheapest open trailer with a wood floor. It will cost you about $20 a D ring to get installed. You can get them in a 7' x 16'. They are light enough to be towed by a Tacoma.

rota92 and I bought a Bre-Mar 18ft full deck with drop rear and a 4500lbs SuperWrench for under $3500.00. Tandem axle, tow it with a 97 Suburban.
Don't cheap out if you plan to tow a lot and have lots of money invested in your set up.

I AGREE w/1992si
i have a 18 bri-mar closed deck diamond plate, hidden ramps, dual axle w/brakes
i tow like a mad man w/my f250 gas, no problems no worries, its heavy but worth it, the heavier the more stable, slowing down is alittle different story
Long story short, the better the trailer the less to worry about, trailer brakes are a must in my opinion, panic stops are not panics when u have trailer brakes
if u have alot of money in your car, can u afford get get a cheap trailer and possible have a accident/incodent and loose alot more then the few extra bucks in the trailer
Good luck

eh, i guess its a matter of opinion, mine has no brakes, but with a crew cab long bed in front of it, doesnt really need em. i've used mine to tow from nor cal to central Oregon, no problems. how high are the decks on those trailers?

Tandum axles. It's an anderson, 2 year's old with less than 800 miles on it. I stole it for $2500.
Tandum is the way to go. Stable as ****. With my dodge I cant even tell it's behind me!

i have a 16' dual axle and it works just fine for me, no complaints other than it's not enclosed, haha.
something to really keep in mind when trailer shopping is height of the trailer and length of the ramps. loading low cars onto a high trailer with short ramps is NOT FUN. if you've gotta pay a couple hundred bucks more to get longer ramps with a dove-tail, go for it.

Price isn't really an issue for me... it's just finding parking for it. I don't mind spending 2-3k for a trailer, but I don't want to pay 200 a month to store it.
As for sticking with my dolly, I hate it because 1. I can't backup with it and 2. I smacked the side of my car twice already while making a really tight turn into a driveway.
