Shifter Talk...
i looking for a better smoother shifting setup than the one i have now. what does everyone use?
i have the b&m i dont like it that much.
i was looking into the skunk2 shift *** and shifter. i heard that really smooth and short. but i was also loking for a shifter that was a little taller to bring the shifter higher.
i heard improving the trans mounts helps out alot becasue then the trans won't move it will help u get a better shift.... is this true?
lookn to bang gears a little harder and more consistant in 2004

[QUOTEThe shifter itself really has nothing to do with how smooth the shift is. Bushings, linkage and trans condition determine that.

Da man 30psi is right- the better performance comes with better bushings, shift linkage, and plain and simple- new factory (Honda) parts. If your parts are old, the performance is going to be old. Just like an old man, trying to race his ferrari. <-- (well, this actually has nothing to do with anything). But anywho- I have the skunk2, and where you heard it was the shortest?! Its actually stock height. The bearings are awesome, and yes, the shifting was far improved from the stock unit. I dont have the skunk2 ****, (the thing weighs like 10 pounds) but it does make for solid gear changes with the added weight while taking less effort to shift.
I dont know how B&M works, expect for the fact that they have a big name cooperation, and lots of $$- which dosent always make it be "a good product."
As far as tranny mounts go- yes- the more solid the better. Basically, the more your tranny shakes, the more your shifter is going to shake. As far as strengthining the stock unit I dont know how you would go about doing that unless you got custom fab done. I dont know of any aftermarket tranny shells/mounts? (eagle are you reading this)
I ripped my tranny right off the mount going from 1st to 2nd. The torque of the motor (on stock mounts) just tore it right off.

thanks for your input.
i am thinking about going with the full skunk2 package.
last year i had a stock tranny mount andb&m short throw(street version) and new bushings and i thought that the throw was short but so was the damn shifter.
this year i am looking at poly bushing insert for the trans and new shifter bushings and skunk 2 shifter and ****.
i heard that the gm syncromesh fluids also help out shifting tons as well

I got a I dont remember the name soild short shifter with enrgy bushings, hasport motor mounts and when I made the linkage for the B series I welded the linkage so the shifter angles more towards the driver side.
Definitly upgrade your shifter busings to Energy Suspensions shifter stabilizer bushings. You'll notice an improvmnt in shifter feel. You can find it at http://www.jdmgears.com.
I'm using energy suspensions stabilizer bushings, which work well. And I use to use a APC crap for a shifter but last summer I switched to a JG Edelbrock shifter adn ****. I love it.
I have Obsesive complusive disorder, when it comes to shifters, I have had several over the years, and always come back to a stock GSR, however the fastline shifter looks promising but $149.00 ouch!

yeah i would have to agree with some other peeps on this... the best in my opinion is the stock gsr shifter with a stock gsr shift ****, thats teh best feeling in my opinion......
i've heard the ITR shifter is the best short shifter you can get. I personally had a generic 3A racing shifter from pep- boys with energy suspension bushings and hasport mounts and I couldn't ask for a better shift.
