Default SFWD question

For SFWD do you neeed to run full interior such as back seats and all the back plastic or side trim?

If you need to run back seats do you guys have your rear cage bent to go up and around the seats? Or do you just have the back bars come down and cut a hole into the seat?

INTERIOR: Door panels, dash, headliner and
carpet must remain in place. Passenger seat and
back seat plus all interior trim from driver's seat
back can be removed. Doors must work from inside
and outside of vehicle. Windows and door switches
must work and be located as designed by
manufacturer. Cars will be re-inspected on the
return road any cars found missing required
components shall be disqualified. Stock steering
column and turn signals most be retained.

See so which is it?

To me reading that means I need all the back paneling.

"All factory controls must be retained and operative;
i.e., lights, signals, horn, windows, and wipers." I am assuming this means keeping heater box? What about your air bag is that considered factory controls? I have a momo wheel so no more air bag.

If i'm right, NDRA allows 1 seat, and nhra u must have 2 seats matching etc. So it just depends what santioning body you are running.

It says rear seats can be removed, it dosn't say anything else in the rear of the
car can be removed. You need the plastic to be legal.

Chad listen to Racer Steve. And keep your bars straight unless you want seating for passengers.

Hold on, there is definitely some misinformation in this thread. The title of the thread says SFWD, so I'm going to assume you mean NHRA Sport Front Wheel Drive. Jerseykid609 quoted the NHRA rule book. I don't know where slow90hatch got that passage. It does not apply to NHRA SFWD.

I suggest you download th NHRA rulebook here: http://www.nhraimport.com/2005/rules/index.html

Look under Class Regulations for the specifics. There really isn't much left to interpretation. If it does not list it, you may not remove it. There's some other stuff in there that I think people might be overlooking too. Valid registration/plates for example. Print that out and know it back to font.

Basically, you are allowed to remove the back seats. You must have two matching, upholstered front seats. You may not remove the rear plastic panels. I know that for a fact because Modacar had to go out and buy some to be able to race. Honestly, all those panels don't weigh that much, so I don't mind runing them. Plus all the V8 boys' jaws drop when you click off a mid-10 at the test-and tune nights. They come over to check the car out and trip out that the car doesn't look like a tin can.

Okay I wasn't sure b/c dave said you needed the rear seats then someone else said you don't need anything in the rear.

I just had my cage installed I can't put back the rear plastic panels. I'd have to cut them in two and somehow get them in there...

You would be surprised just how far you can bend these things! Been there. If
you need to cut them then you have to do what you have to do.

Just try to keep it clean looking.

I took your advice, went down stairs and got the panels to fit. I was sweating bullets when I was done, but I got them back in there. Looks better that way!

Those things can take some abuse.

Must be nice to work on your car and sweat bullets in March, I could barely feel my fingers when I go to do something on my car.
