Default Setting alignment for best traction:

is there a rule of thumb when setting alignment on a drag car? should it just set to stock specs for best use on slicks? i know that if there is any positive or negative toe the tires will be fighting each other. can anyone elaborate more on this?

I would think you'd want the slicks flat on the track when the weight is transfered. Look at some photo's of cars before and during the burnout box and launching.

I'd give you more, but it's not my place to give away someones secrets.

this topic has been covered before plenty of times.

Think about the way the car reacts and drives down the track. Use your brain to figure it out. "Honda-tech"isnt gonna tell you everything.

you need to look into how much suspension travel you have and adjust your setup accordingly to that... alot of people are making there cars work very well with different suspension setups... Again look into the amount of travel you have... If you have no pics of the car you can get an idea by lifting the front of the car and seeing how much the front suspension droops... Make sure you have a good set of upper control arms... For full adjustment.. Align the car to where the slick is going to be flat at full suspension travel... (use an alignment rack!!!!!)

Also Look into getting your bump steer set up then the wheels will always travel straight
regardless of suspension movement

thanks for everyones input. Im mainly doing some research for my friends evo 8 and some for myself as well. The evo will be on NT555R's and i will be setting his alignment for him (i work at a shop) once we get those stickier tires on there. i figured i would post on here since this site is a lot more active than most. I will have to do some research more on his car before i start adjusting. more than likely i will just set to as stock as possible and close to zero degrees of camber and toe.

let me give it a shot,,

setup the car on desired Tires take it to get aligned

set toe 1/8 negative on both wheels and camber -1 degrees i think thats right

so when the car launches the wieght distributes and lifts the front Perfect camber and the chassis will flex bringing the toe in a perfect alignment and setting the slick level with the ground
works for me!

thanks for chiming in. i was lookin at your sig and saw 7.33! thought it was 1/4 mile for a second there.

i work at a shop so i will be doing the alignment on the evo 8 and my own car myself so i will give it a shot. the evo already pulls 1.61 60 ft's but we all know on the street its a different story. not saying that i street race. ahem...

Here you go 0 degrees chamber, 7-8 degrees of positive caster, and about 1/8 to 1/4 of toe out.

heres one. Should i align the front with the slicks at about 30 psi of tire pressure since when the car is going down the track the tire grows to near the same size as fully inflated from expansion.

No set alignment with what ever pressure you set them at the starting. And make sure when ever you make an allignment adjusment you roll and jounce the car before taking the next measurment. because the tires are so soft you will move the rim in the tire, and be fighting yourself all day.
