s2000 Strip advice needed
I have an 00 S2000 @ 45000 miles. Runs like a top.
I'm running borla mufflers on the stock pipes (bought it like that, it doesnt sound bad)
AEM V2 Intake
Throttle body coolant bypass performed (it's only a weekend car anyway).
The S2000 is no drag machine by any stretch, however, it's very capable of running 13 second times with no mods (not that the bolt ons do much to the well tuned setup anyway).
My personal best time is 14 flat with a 104 trap - everything just felt right on that run. I can consistently get mid 14s out of it, and the occasional low 15 while playing around with the launch.
Whats killing me is my 60'
My reaction times aren't bad, but could free up a tenth or two if I get it down pat.
a 14.42 slip trapping 96.93 was with a 2.28 60'
a 14.67 slip trapping 95.33 was with a 2.36 60'
a 14.29 slip trapping 96.81 was with a 2.10 60'
i'm thinking the high 13s the car is capable of are just a matter of nailing 1.8 or better 60' time.
I run BFG traction T/A's on my stock 16's (on the car when I bought it) - they're fairly new, and have only been to four track nights. They don't get driven on daily.
All of the above slips are on Konig Theory 17's (19lbs) - Kumho Ecsta 711s - 215/45s - with a good bit of miles on them.
The car seemed more prone to slippage on the Kumho's - but also more agile off the line. I tried it with spinning them a time or two in the waterbox, but normally just driving around it.
I'm looking to get my 60' times down without obliterating the clutch. (catch 22 eh?)
A knowledgeable contact on another board has suggested preloading my trans at the line. I don't see this being good on the life of the clutch - but is it the best way to launch the S2k ?
Dropping the hammer from anything less than 5k seems to result in bog when it hooks up and falls out of vtec. Dropping anything over 5k is just spinning the wheels off at the line. Feathering the clutch on a 5500 / 6k drop has yielded the best results for me so far.
Any reccomendatins as to launch revs ? Any help appreciated.

Preload is not the best on the clutch but compare that to the price of a rear end and tranny and you'll see why people do that. In any case if you start using a sticky tire to lower your 60ft time on the stock rear end you will end up breaking something over time.
pseudomaniac...Reaction times have no effect on you ET for the run. You can sit at the line for five seconds and then take off and your time would be the same. By the looks of your trap of 104mph you are making power, but you need to now get it to the ground.

Agreed, no effect on ET. However, crossing the line with tires already hooking up as opposed to just starting to spin makes a huge difference in my times.
It's like starting the race at a sprint instead of at a jog. I'm not reacting right to get the best launch - which makes me think that a good launch will yield a .100 range reaction time...I tend to hang staged as far back as possible so I can launch at yellow with the wheels spinning. Maybe there are better tactics...maybe I just need to preload the clutch and heel toe it off the line ?
I dunno - I just want to get the car to make a good pass or two - no intention of trying to turn it into a 12 second car...too cheap to do that to civics, and the B and K motors handle boost much better than the F20...
I'm a noob to the site, but far from a noob to the track, or to Hondas...
