Default Roll Cages and Rules

I have read on other threads so many thoughts and rumors etc on cages.
I have also read on another thread that turned into a bash fest.... ewwww that one got kinda ugly.
I figured it was time to get on and try and see if I could help and put my .02 in....

First of all I want every one to know that there are many reputable chassis guys out there, every single one has their own style and skill level. But the most important thing you need to remember is when all is said and done it will have to be inspected by your local NHRA Chassis Inspector.
If you have any questions, or worries give one of those guys a call!
Most know the chassis builders in their respective areas and can tell you yea or nea on the work quality and compliance to the rule standards. You can find who they are by going to NHRA.com and look up your divison section, in those they have the phone numbers of the chassis inspectors.

I have been one of the very lucky few who are both, a Chassis builder and an NHRA Inspector to boot... I need to say that it is a double edge sword, it has had its good points and bad, but mostly good.
Since the inception of Sport Compact Racing I have been privaliged to be given the chance to build several cages and roll bars for many local and out of state Racers. Some have been overjoyed with what I did for them and others for some reason not so good, and I apoligize for anything I did to make you unhappy! But never once! did a car leave my shop with any compromise in quality and or saftey!
For a fair amount of time I was the only full time chassis shop in the Salt Lake area, and it was hard to keep up with the demands to try and provide the service that would fit into everyones needs.
With the ever increasing costs of tubing moly, and mild steel it has been very hard to be able to maintain a low cost in building cages, with shop rent and all the other costs of overhead to maintain a full time business and compete with the part time builders who work out of their garages with very little over head. I have had to relook at what type of cars I will be working on in the future.

As for the rules!!! by now you all should have a rule book or access to NHRA for a download version. 6 point roll bar, good to 10.00 with an unalterd floor up to 6 square feet and under 135 mile per hour. Over 135 and 9.99 and quicker 8 point is good to 180 mph and 8.50 ET remember if you have a modified fire wall you will need to have a dash bar, and if the floor has more than 6 square feet cut out you will need a drivers side sill bar too.
I would be more than happy to answer any questions when it comes to tech issue just send me a pm or post and I will reply to you asap..
PS thank you every one on the support on the possible race in Salt Lake.
Ralph
