Default Question for "future proof setup"

Im on my quest to build my car to go racing. SFWD class is where I'd like to be. A lot of it is already there, cage, suspension, front end, fuel cell and components etc etc. But I am hesitant to make the most important decision. What engine series to go with?

Its not a question of which is better but which will make more sense as time goes on. B or K? I've been shopping around and a GSR is averaging $3,100 and the K series can be found for a little more but can be found more often. Problem is, B series engines are becoming hard to find and so are their parts, especially in my area.

I am aware that in time the K will become scarce as well but I'd like to know what you guys think before I buy engine specific items such as mounts, hot parts etc.

btw its a crx if it matters at all.

Thanks guys.

it kind of depends on your budget. also you can peice together a motor for a whole lot less than buying a whole complete swap and then tearing it all apart anyway to build it.

mostly its about if you have the money to go big and deal with the issues with the K series. (if you have the $$$ for a good K trans) if you plan on using a stock one forget about it.

even with the B series over 500 or so hp to be reliable you need a dogbox trans.

An advantage to B series turbo is there are a lot of used good race parts available. K not so much yet.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Thanks Nos.. I guess I asked because alot of well known (connected) guys get motors very easily and parts. But the average guy like me needs to pay a premium for everything. Budget wise, im aware of the costs and I am committed. I just don't want to send a rod through the block and spend months finding another block. Or end up having to order an entire engine again. A friend of mine with a drag civic blew up and had to drive 8 hours to get a crank. To me that hassle outweighs any cost.

It's not that hard to find a B-series block.. Its even easier if you don't mind buying one that has had an issue. I bought my GSR block for 150 bucks because it had sleeve damage. I didn't care because I was sending the block out to GE to get sleeved and oringed.

I'm sure its not in other places. Believe me I am not exaggerating when I say my area is a rip off. Bare blocks on craigslist going or $350-450, stock heads going for $700 to a grand. And the local JDM importers want nearly $2800 for a obdo b16. Its outrageous here. But I do appreciate the input guys. From what I gather although scarce the B is still the way to go.

I need to take all my parts from Socal over there!! 700-1000 for a stock head! holy crap i'd be rolling in cash. i can barely get 350-400 for the complete heads i have with intake mani, throttle body, sensors, cams, valve cover, just no dizzy.

Where do you live? In the DC area you can find blocks, heads, and even full engines for much cheaper than that
