Honda did a horrible job labeling trannies and without knowing which year you are talking about we don't know exactly what you're dealing with (GSR, LS, etc.). That's not a huge deal unless your motor just isn't strong enough and you're bogging. We haven't played with nonVTEC motors/trannies for a long time but we all do 2nd gear burnouts for either NA or FI motors. This helps get your wheel speed up so long as you have enough power (doesn't take too much). Don't sit in the water box either, roll through it, rev up and burnout, then drag forward while you're still spinning. Just some little things but I really wouldn't be too worried about smoke, just make sure they're heated up. I've just noticed some tires smoke better than others (i.e. M&H ). Just my $0.02 tho

run the snot out if them before the race and get them as bald as possable.......
i tested 60ft with new tread and at the point they almost had no tread left they hooked best....and at 12psi....make sure your tire guage is accurate....below 12psi becomes unsafe....
with a 400+rwhp car we pulled 1.41 60ft...
and a 300fwhp car 1.71 60ft......

here's the trick with a burnout with drag radials..and this i did with a $114.00 clutch

#1 12psi
#2 as u are getting into the water box quickly gun the car and get all the tire wet.
#3 pull only about 6 inches out of the box and set ur ebrake...
#4 put the car in second gear, yes second gear.....
#5 bring the rpm's up to about 5k
#6 find the feel good spot to slip the clutch and get them hot making the rpm go up to 6k+ and back down to 5k turning the wheel left to right...
#7 ull know when u need to let the ebrake loose and burn them forward..dont let off before burning them forward , do it right at the end of the tire spin...

second gear allows better gearing for faster revolutions , it may take a few time to get it right but 1.71 is nothing to sneeze at...i launched at about 5k or so and stayed into the throttle thru the minor tire spin, let em spin and dont let off remember forward motion with some spin is better than letting off and having to get back into the throttle....

2nd gear
pull e-brake up with both hands
I drop the clutch at 8000rpm and go from 8 to 9, 8 to 9 and when it starts draging me out i stand on the limiter.

thanx for the 2 cents....ill try that. these MT dont smoke too well then i guess, still pulling 1.9 60ft times with them so i guess i really can complain. ill try 2nd gear and roll out of the water box. (ive been sittin in the water box with first gear) thanx!!!!
