David D. from Wind Tunel on speed chanel had sugested this for nascar. i think it could benefit all forms of motorsports.

just think about it. all the cars on the west coast against eachother. and the east coast cars against eachother during the beggining of the season. by the end of the season only the cars that are the fastest and in the lead are the ones that go to the big final "super bowl like event". i am not a sports fan in no means so i can very deffinitley have this all wrong but the basic concept i think i may have explained it right.

this would allow for the little guys to have a much much higher exposure on the magazines and ESPN (whenever that happens) in the beggining of the season. and i will stop here and continue later when some more coments are posted.

Well the way i look at it each race is like the playoffs, qualifying is like the "regular season" where you qualify is your position in the ladder. The ladder is like a playoff ladder you go each round at the the end the finals is the "superbowl". Every race is like a sports season and we get 20 a year!

 

That's probably part of the long term vision for NHRA Sport Compact.

NHRA domestic side has been divided into 7 Divisions for years. There are 7 Divisional Championships (Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series) for non-professional categories, competed at Divisional events where pro's (TF, FC & PS) do not attend. Non-professionals also compete for a National title, based on performance at Divisional AND National (POWERade) events. In order to compete at the Nationals, you have to earn points at the Divisionals. Howver, there are A LOT more cars available on the domestic side. I think if NHRA tried to split the country into even 2 regions, would only leave them with short fields at every race. But it will get there, it will get there.

ohh ok cool. i didnt really get the details of it all before. but now that i do i think i'll ask the moderators to delete this thread because it would end up making our sport very veeeeerrry boring.

If you think about it, this is a good idea in a way. I think it would make a fun competition for everyone. I dont think it should replace the NHRA sport compact series, or IDRC, or NDRA, or any of the current events, but if there was an event set up like this besides those events already, i think it would be alot of fun.. Sorta like an exebition game in the NHL or NFL, doesnt mean too much, but its alot of fun...
