Default Outlaw in 2012???

So I wanted to discuss this here on HT. The decline in car counts and people falling off the face of the earth with their outlaw cars is obvious. So I wanted to bring up several points to see if we can keep this class alive.... Cause if the class dies, I'm stuck with a $50,000 civic. Mainly I know money is a big setback. I know the competitiveness of the class definitely makes people lose motivation.. So how can we fix it? I can't help people make more $$ so..........

People stepped up from SFWD to outlaw this weekend cause a few guys didn't come??? Does the class need to be limited???

I think that we can also get more sponsors if we can show companies that these aren't a 1 event kinda car... Maybe make a few events and a points chase.... Since I'd say every outlaw car is backed by a shop or represents a shop...

Ok discuss.... No bitching either ladies please....

all they need to do is leave the rules that were in place in 2010...that was the best fall nationals ive ever been too...this year sucked...also a couple more outlaw events a year...theres 2 honda days which suck cause none of the big names go to compete...maybe a 5000 dollar price for spring nats, honda day 1 and 2...and then 10k for fall nationals to end the year on a high note...

The rules from last year to this year where the same.

The local big named guys where at those races.

This year had some of the best side by side racing and it was a toss up of who was going to win. We where so tight that anyone of the 11 could of took the win.

The people that didnt race made that choose not to show and IMO it made for a better race. No one ran away with the class.

The problem is, people think that a good weekend/race is when one car dominates and blows everyone else away.

Impressive? Definitely. But look at how exciting the side by side races were this weekend from 10.5 seconds, to 9.0's. That's what makes racing exciting, and when people slowly progress as a group (read, all motor street) it develops a tight following and a big group of people that want to compete.

I want the outlaw class to stay alive too, we've gotta button up Chris' car and run it, and I've got a 4.6 FD gearset to dump lol

I agree 100%

I was going to just race SFWD up intil a few days before the race because I just couldnt afford it, but my friends wouldnt allow it and they posted the money for me. They are truely the reason that I raced Outlaw. I wanted to race soo bad but I cant go broke doing so.

Everyone that wants to race the class needs to take a look at what they can do to make it a better race for all thats involved.

I thought it was awsome... it was the first fall nats I have been to but never the less I thought it was awsome. We will be back next year my car is in outlaw trim but still slow I do think it would have a mid 9 second pass in it a etown with my 2011 setup. I realize how shitty the other tracks I have been to are now and will deffinatly be bringing my ef next year so count one more in for sure.

I don't remember one Fall Nationals outlaw event where 1 person blew everyone away...

In #1 you had the first 8 second pass. Tony was in front but Ballard was on his heels and Miller's car was doing 170+. Racing was close and records were broken

#2 Miller was the favorite but Cuhna gave him a run along with a few other people. Tony was out for personal reasons but Miller set a record and racing was still pretty close.

#3 Speed Factory came out and put on a HELL of an underdog showing...Tony flukes out and red lights, TD, Prayontoo, Cunha again all put on a good show and again ANOTHER record broken by Miller. Hell, we even got to see a neon run 8s

By all means I don't want to diminish the accomplishments of those who stepped up and raced Outlaw at this event, or tried to step up and had issues...but after all of the drama that preceded this event, you cannot argue that the progression of this class is going in the right direction.

I think the guys that ARE Outlaw need to get together themselves, offline where they can work out rules, locations for events, etc...and then anyone who doesn't currently but wants to play in their sandbox can, following what the racers decide. You all know the sponsors, the companies that support this class, talk to them, talk to the various organizational bodies that hold events and make this your class. Then SHOW UP and the fans will rejoice!

Can the race be in the middle of the country? That would help us westcoasters Maybe a few races around the country that lead up to a finals? Finals would be held at the previous year winner's home track.

I just remember the turn out at IFO Vegas this year. We had 52 cars in FWD. That makes me think that a lower buy-in in a more central location will help increase turnout.

but wasnt there the same amount of cars this year as there was last year in outlaw and cunha, miller, palo, the neon and td themselves were missing i mean someone correct me if im wrong i mean if its dying then idk i jus think there's alot of breakage and track clean up time that takes away from the racing but that will be on a different thread im sure

ppl stil went 8s this weekend....i saw the speedfactory car go 8.80 la carla went 8.9s and a few others i noticed that were dam close or let off up top once they put buses on there competitor lol

I'll be the one to ask Damien...With your daily facebook posts about how sales are up 25+% over last year every day...how come your excuse for not making the event this year was that the $1000 buy in was too expensive? It's okay to make a living off of the sport compact community and fans, but you can't even make half an effort to attend the biggest race of the year?

IMO, this years event was great. Same amount of cars as last year and it was up for grabs...heck Darren nearly took ok SF in the 2nd round when their trans broke. The people that did not come, missed out on a great event. As for the fuel issue, we ran ignite 114 in the evans car. All it took was 1/2 gallon of regular fuel per 5 gallons to make it legal. Non issue...

How many times had the td car been out to race this year? From what i can see people need to get there cars out and race. And this is OUTLAW set a few rules and go with it. Dont shoot yourself in the foot with making the class too much of a spec class.

curious to see how next year goes. this year turned around and ended up being a lot better than i thought it was going to be with all the nonsense that went on right before the event.

this year reminded me a lot of the first (and best) year of outlaw, even though it was really more of just a spfwd shoot out haha

maybe i'll quit screwing around and make my grey car run. ive been buying parts here and there, but have not even looked at it in about 8 months. 24.5's or 26's is the question. 26's you get to run twice a year. 24.5's you can race almost every weekend (and i think that has something to do with the # of "outlaw" cars at the "outlaw" shoot out.)

i think anybody running heads up, quick 32, or any of the index class's should be required to have a catch pan. i bet the track workers wanted to blow their heads off.

also, i think they should hire the military to come hang out in the bathrooms with machine guns. for the dirty nasty people throwing their trash all over the ground, creating a 4ft river of **** on the floor, pooping, puking, smoking weed, and doing whatever the hell else nasty stuff is going on.....just shoot those damn people. if i worked at the track and it was my job to clean up after these A-holes i would probably just burn the whole track down. it would be easier and less disgusting haha. i feel really bad for the people that have to clean that stuff up. i can not believe how trashy some people are.

If I had a majic wand I would be a little more forgiving with some of the rules concerning fuel, fuel delivery, and anything that will help with breakages.

But then again wasn't this class made for the SFWD guys to just throw on some 26's and have at it for a few races? Now there are cars build specifically for the class which has only a handful of races a year in certain places on the map. More events and more options for the racers would get them more interested in dusting off the cars and go out and race.

Also this class isn't for the DIY guy that doesn't have all that many resources to pull from. That being said you might not see that many more cars being built for the class until there are more events in more areas. It's a money class and that is where SFWD, T/S, and index come in.

FTW...

NSCRA DECEMBER 3 & 4 FINALS WOULD BE A GOOD CLOSE FOR THE YEAR....MILLER RAN HIS FIRST 8.50 THERE TWO YEARS AGO...WHERE ELSE CAN YOU RACE IN DECEMBER AND RUN THOSE TIMES...IJS...LOL

It's clearly still alive, yet all you do is talk about how it's dying or already dead. It's "dying" in your eyes because you don't race it anymore. That's not the case for other people. It started off as one race per year and now there are two per year. So, by doing your FB sales math, it's up by 200%!

Read the bold part. This is very untrue. Look at who competed this past weekend....

It's expensive to build a competitive outlaw car. Plain and simple. I've got about $60k in my car and I still haven't really done **** with it yet. Nobody forced you to build the car, so stop whining, man. If you don't like it go back to SFWD.

My fourth shootout at Englistown. It was great not as good as the first but great. Darren
sure picked up a lot of fans with his efforts. Something has to be done with the oil downs I damx near left Sunday afternoon really fustrating. I wonder if a different location would help (not starting any crap just a thought)? Perhaps Fl, Ga, NC. Anyone ever count up the amount of tolls from DC to Old Bridge? Holy Crap its got to be $75.00 each way.

you guys don't want to hear this, you want a bigger class

size of turbo
size of tires
weight
only fwd
no wheelie bars
no alcohool
everything else goes, you gonna get a mix of cars to the event, if like myself have a hotrod class car, just like many others if we fit into the rules then you will get alot more cars out..
