OBX LSD vs ITR LSD vs Open Diff
Now I know this has been discussed before but most of the threads I have seen are from 05-06 and I have been told that OBX has since updated their LSDs.
Fast2CamCiv (aka Dietz) is the guy I modeled my car after (budget build racing ftw) and he ran one for multiple 400+whp passes no problem.
From looking around I have seen 500, 600, 700+ whp setups using shimmed OBX LSDs with little to no problem.
I dont have 1600 to drop on a LSD+install. Just dont.
The ITR LSD is my other option but from what Ive read they are not great with slicks or more than 250-300whp.
Lastly is open diff (GSR in this case) Some say this is the way to go. Proper suspension, even tire pressure, proper burnout.
FLAME AWAY!

yeah take then do what with it? he hee
evans tuning has a diff install video. i havent watched it, but it isnt that bad at all to do.
take the job on yourself, and put the quaife in. in the long run it will be the better bet.
but i agree with dave, i would take the obx over the stock.

...First off, you don't need to spend 1600$ to have a good diff in your tranny. just by serching for a min. in the for sale forum i found a GSR with OBX diff for 775$ and a JDM GSR w/ Quaife and new synchros and exedy flywheel for 1100.
..Second, ITR LSD are just ok, but will still handle more than 300whp. The OBX is good on a budget, but you won't find near the same quality as in the Quaife.
..and last, but not least. An open diff?? not a good thing, unless you like those one wheel peels.

I have a feeling this is a street car, spool may be a tad over kill.
Not to say that people dont drive a spool on the street, but hey to each their own. .
Spool + no PS + street car = Massive forearms in a month . .

..because, this is prob. a street car on a budget build, and has stock axels.
..street car with stock axels and spool= not a good idea
..i don't know anyone who wants to break an axel @ high speeds with a spool in the tranny.

First of all self install is out of the question. Ive seen professionals mess up diff installs, I can hardly change my own spark plugs...(exaggeration, but you get the point)
From what Ive seen quaifes are around 900-1000 shipped, plus new diff bearings, and install. So maybe not quite 1600, but at least 1300.
The GSR with the quiafe, IIRC, the guy wont ship, but post the link for me. Much appreciated. Or its the one with the 4.9FD, which I for sure dont want.
And this is car isnt exactly a street car, but will occasionally be driven back and forth from the track. And it will be on stock axles. And yea,

honestly its not THAT hard to install a diff...the obx in my sohc was the first one i ever did, and to be honest i didnt shim it or anything, just threw it in.
now on my gsr i have an itr lsd and it was cake to instal as well....i had a BITCH of a time getting the case back on, and ended up breaking it...but thats another thread lol
honestly the itr diff is only like 100 bucks cheaper than an obx, and after you swap ring gears and main shafts to make it work, the obx sounds mighty nice, cheaper, stronger....obx gets my nod as well....i got a screaming deal on my itr diff and used 3 trannies to make 2 good ones for me and a buddy, other wise i would have went obx again...that was the original plan anyways
good luck with whatever you do, and shop around...budget builds ftw!!!!!

yes that vid was great, detailed, and informative. i didnt think jeff would use obx products but in the vid it looks like he did.
if your main goal is a budget build, id recommend OBX

obx could very well be the best bang for the buck, if thats what you are looking for.
the obx diff in my trans has been in at least 2 10 second or faster cars, and im making low 400s with it currently. stock axles. im very pleased with mine

You dont have to swap main shaft and ring gear unless you installing the 4.7 final drive. Only time you need to swap ring gears is if your using a GSR/ITR diff in a B16 or LS trans or visa versa , (inner diameter is different). Problem I have with stock style lsds is the problem they cant hold much torque and tire swap.
from what Ive gathered, if the OBX is a new version/style, taken apart and put back together correctly, and is shimmed, and the axles come out without too much effort, you should be good.
