Default ? for NHRA License

Can I take all six passes at Irwindale 1/8 mile or do I need the last 2 passes on a 1/4 mile?

you can do 4 passes at 1/8 mile track, the last 2 you can also do but you need to run a 6.3 in the 1/8. If you are no where near a 6.3 then dont bother. The last 2 can be run at a 1/4 and just run 135mph or higher, or a nine, and you are good to go.

I obtained my License runs at Irwindale as well. I had to run 6.4 or faster...which we did. No problem finding friendly racers to sign off as witnesses as well.

I've been wondering about this for a long time since I'm going to be doing my Licensing passes soon. My car is nowhere close to a consistent 9 second car. During the Licensing passes, what if I cant get the car in the 9"s...will the MPH be good enough?

Paul,

If you run your passes at an 1/8 mile you need to run 6.3 or faster. The 1/8 mile passes have no provision for MPH, meaning you have to run 6.3 or faster.

On the 1/4 mile you can run a 9 or 135mph or faster to get your license.

Irwindale is a hard spot for a car thats not a 6.30 1/8 car ==== my Cobalt has never seen a 6.50 1/8 yet can go the high 9 sec pass.

I would go to a 1/4 mile track do the 2 "easy" pass / 2 1/8 pass and then knock out the 2 9 sec pass. The other option is to do the 4 easy pass at irwindale get them signed off and then do the 2 9 sec pass at BOTI-----I can sign and go help if someone needs it before Vegas

Palmdale made us make the middle 2 passes over because we went 10.000000 @ 130 and they wanted 135 + hahaha

i made my first four at the 1/8 irwindale.

i would tell everyone to go to fontana ( if in s. cali) cause 6.3 is like a low 9 sec pass....

or even so, go to vegas on friday and sat to make the rest.

well just got back from irwindale and they said that a person would have to run a 6.39 or better. To be consistent and run that time is pretty difficult so Fontana for me it is.

Hard to do Testing on a 1/4 now adays in SoCal. Track that is open every week is Irwindale every Thursday but only 1/8 mile.

Only other options are Fontana/California Dragway, but those days that they are open once a month have like 400-500 cars and from what people say, you get maybe 2 passes within that 6-7 hours you are there.

Only other closest 1/4 mile is Bakersfield which is a good 2 hrs away for most people. Not really the most convenient choice.

Its sad that we have so many racers in SoCal but very few choices to race at.

ya seriously. It was still a good 45min-1hr drive for most people, but it was the most convenient. not the greatest track, but will be missed for all the memories there.

Its not so easy being a racer in SoCal.
