MSD ignition boxes (6a/sci/etc) question........
are they worth it? some people had great experince w/ them. others keep burning out their ignitors. just want feedback on msd products. thanks!
btw, i alreaddy picked up a sci-l for $100, jus wanna know if it's worth installing, it's for my daily.

Sure why not,i have one that i got for cheap also so i decided to just go for it.I havent had problems with mine and it the idle seems real smooth.Just some FYI i heard Erick Aguilar still runs stock ignition.
yea, i know stock ignition isn't all that bad, but like i said, $100 for sci-l, that's hell of a deal, i got the box mainly for the rev limiter and i'm thinking of getting 2-step down the line. just hope the car doesn't die on me while driving, i've heard stories.

here is an alternative to MSD boxes that we have had great results with. Its from Forced fuel injection and sells for 250.00 compared to the higher priced msd digital boxes and it works with the blaster coils from MSD. the only one out right now is the

"Part# 4520, Model RL2 The RL2 includes all the features of the A1 plus, not one but two built-in rev limiters. The first helps protect the engine from seeing excessive rpm due to missed shifts or drivetrain component failure. The second allows you to stage the car for consistent launches at the track. The RL2 comes with modules for 3,000, 6,000, 7,000, and 8,000 rpm"

i heard the same thing. i was just wondering how he uses the 2 step w/ stock ignition? does the hondata have this feature?

Burnt out ignitors arnt being cause by MSD boxes. They just burn up because of Honda's shitty design.I've changed many of those and none of them had any kind of aftermarket ignition box on it.

I am going to be running a 125 shot of nitrous, since I will be using the Hondata S200 it'd be a waste of money to buy a MSD 6AL or better right? Should I just get a MSD 6A for better spark?

Thing is, I don't think I need all the extra options it comes with, since I have the Hondata. That's why I was trying to decide if the 6A was all I need.
well, isn't the msd rev limiter better than the hondata's rev limiter? the msd uses a soft touch system which i'm not gonna explain, you can read the info on their site about that. but w/ msd, it cuts your ignition (spark) as oppose to hondata which i believe is like a stock ecu and cuts your fuel only. to my opinion cutting the ignition for the rev limit and for 2-step is wiser, jus my opinion though, a person that only runs 14's at the best,
The only extra options the 6-digital or 6AL have are rev-limiters..but if you want no options, period.A good box to get is the Mallory Hyfire VI-A,its newer technology, draws less and has more sparking power than the 6A but its still not as powerful as a 6-Digital.
I checked into the Hyfires in Jegs and found that they are cheaper and deliver more voltage than the MSD. How is the reliablity on these? Also, since it sounds like a good idea to have the MSD soft touch rev control over Hondata's, does the Hyfire VI-AL revlimiter work the same way or is it no better than Hondata's?
Well i dont know how the Hondata rev-limiter works, never use it but the mallory does it the same way as the MSD.As far as reliability,Mallory always made good stuff.I never used a Hyfire but i do have one of thier distributors and coils(not on my honda) and both are close to 10 years old.On the other hand,my luck with MSD reliability has been so so.I've owned 3 6As,one i still have and is 10 years old,the other two 6A shorted out(one of those from time to time the car wouldnt start,i had to bang on it to get the car to start
) and I've owned 1 6AL which fryed because of a bad coil wire that sparked onto the neg terminal of the coil and into the box.My current box is the 6-digital,two years old and still going strong(knock on wood). The only reason i didnt go with the mallory is because the specs of the 6 digital just look to good to pass up.
BTW...if you look at the internal wiring of the 6A-AL,it looks like rats nest compared to the 6-dig or Hyfire.
