Default Lexan question

What do most people use to create the black lining around the lexan? Some look just like it came from the factory. Would like some tips and advice b4 I start on my lexan.

Just dont use rivets, use a thing called thread-serts.. Its an insert that goes into the metal of the car and has thread on it, you need a special pop tool to install them, and you can use black tapered hex screws in it. The finished look is perfect!

Plus you can vary how tight you set it. With rivets its too easy to overtighten and warp the lexan making it look crappy.

normally they use a reg flat black spray paint but after they rivet it on the paint splits open and you get a dirty looking black frame ido a quick 800 greit and use model spray paint for rc cars and the paint is flexable and sticks to the plastic and doest lift

Can you use window silicone to put lexan in?It would give it a real clean look also...i ask because a friend does widshields for most of the local dealerships and does a real clean job.I think it should work though, seeing as it holds glass good.

One thing to be sure about when painting your windows is to be sure they are clean and try to get your hands on some paint that not only sticks to lexan, but also can handle some flexing without flaking off. Bickel has a good product for this.

Polycarbonate paint works best on lexan you can get it at any hobby store, it's mainly used to paint RC car bodies, very durable and flexable doesn't chip.

Go to http://www.mcmaster.com and under search, type Rivnut. That is what you want, and they sell the tool also. We usually mask off the windows and scuff the area that is going to be painted.

with polycarbonate paint you won't need to scuff just clean the area with warm soapy water and let it dry real good before painting
